I emailed the Sky Sports editor yesterday afternoon to inform them that it should be described as 96 Football Fans on account of Colin Sefton. They changed their headline on their main page within 10 minutes. I'd done the same on the BBC site about a month ago. Usually they revert to type though because '96 Liverpool fans' has become so engrained in everyone's consciousness.
Well done mate and I'm glad they listened to you

Putting being a spurs fan aside, I correct people on this because he was different to the other 95, just as every one of them was an individual who carried their own story and had their own lives. It's almost impossible to imagine the knock on effect of this tragedy but highlighting an individual story and multiplying that by 96 means more than the collective well used number.

If that makes sense!

It’s a stupid thing really but if I was to spend eternity wrongly labelled as a Liverpool fan I’d want someone to speak up. Every time people say 96 Liverpool fans (or 95 when referring to the news today) remind them that there was one of our own. 96 tragic deaths, each had their own life.

FWIW 96 people died, and that's the only thing that's relevant. It's important to remember Hillsbrough, so it never happens again.

As I always say, they were individual lives. But the collective 'Liverpool fans' should be corrected as not one of us on this site would be happy to know we'd be described as a Liverpool fan forever should we have been part of such a tragedy. 'Football fans' would be more apt.

Even Liverpool themselves go with '96 Liverpool fans'.

Yeah, it's a stupid distinction. But being a Tottenham fan is a big part of who I am.

Yesterday was the 32nd anniversary of the tragedy that took 95 Liverpool fans.

It also took, as the thread title says, Andrew Sefton - one of our own.

I know we're all very much focused on what's going on at the club today, but this was a tragedy that should not be forgotten by (at the minimum) all football fans.

We should also remember that, whatever our internal disagreements, we are still a family of sorts.

Lest we forget.
