On what evidence are these two better?
They can score, pick a pass. Pritchard has great free kicks. If they are showing that in lower leagues, I'd much rather guve them an opportunity to do it here than continue on with Lennon who is all pace and absolutely nothing else. Lets look at the tour where it only took Ceballos short cameos to prove he adds more than lennon in the same games lennon played.

Lennon looked better in 2 of the 3 games.

Eric Dier has been more threatening down the right in the last 2 or 3 games than Lennon was for the entirety of last season.

Lennon is Harry's kind of player. Always run around a bit. No final ball in attack; and can't tackle in defence. Club should give him a couple of hand bags so that he can fling them at opponents in trying to stop them as h
Your point being what? It's not that we have great options in the squad for wingers if we do sell him.

But do we really have a winger when he plays?

On his day, amazing. Otherwise frustrating (as he was at the weekend). Mind you, that description could be of any Spurs player over the last 7-8 years, par for the course in many ways.

Lennon has always been at his best playing as an orthodox right winger in front of a sitting fullback such as Stalteri or Corluka. Playing ahead of an overlapping fullback like Chimbonda or Walker he is disciplined, but we lose that thrust he provides down the right. He could combine well together with Naughton, maximising the strengths of both, but Poch like AVB before him is wedded to inverted wingers. That being the case it would be best for him to move on (and for us also to replace Naughton).

I cannot understand in any way how the identity of the full-back impacts on an attacking player's ability to either score goals or create them, and I'm not aware of a single other player for whom this lame excuse has even been offered, let alone taken seriously.

I don't think Poch is "wedded to inverted wingers" like AVB. I think his philosophy is that players in the attacking part of the squad, ie. anyone in front of the holding mid/s, have more freedom to their play. He wants the 3 behind the striker, and the striker himself, to be able to roam about, press high up to win the ball back in the opposition half, and drop in and out of positions to confuse defenders when in possession. It's a fluid system that neither Lennon nor Townsend can play due to them being more traditional wingers, albeit Townsend prefers to play inverted. Neither are creative players, although Lennon would contribute to the pressing part as he does defend well.

Lennon looked alright in pre-season, linked up well with Lamela and played good one touch football. I think he has more of a brain and can listen to instructions better than Townsend but can't seem to do this regularly enough and fades out of games too easily. Townsend, on the other hand, is more of an impact player but shows very little in the way of tactical intelligence or being able to work as part of a team.

Lennon at his best was/is a far better , classier and more intelligent player than Townsend .

I love Townsend but never in a million years is he going to be as good as Lennon was .

Class is permanent .

Don't bet against Lennon making the comeback which that other jinky winger , (Sean Wright Phillips) couldn't manage .

He had a very good first half of the 2012/1013 season. He was in my opinion our standout performer along with Sandro and Dembele up until Christmas.

But memory is a fleeting thing.

Lets just come to terms with the fact that he's one of the players that's a part of our squad, and a guy that potentially can be a real pain in the ass for every team we face if he's somewhat on form and we use him well.

Unfortunately he is more often a pain in our ass than our opponents.

I wonder if people have ever actually stopped to consider that Aaron Lennon is our only proper right winger. Whatever he lacks, he does gives us something we as a team lack; Experience combined with speed. He looked reasonable yesterday when he came on and I really want to see him start against Forrest and from there, I want Poch to seriously consider him for next Saturday.

I was more disappointed we didn't see any of Ceballos yesterday than Lennon. Think he could've helped with the energy levels and unpicking the lock that was the West Brom defence.
