Looks like Adam Smith is off to Bournemouth permanantly - he has changed his Twitter header to delete reference to Spurs.

He has also just tweeted a hashtag 'New Chapter'

Shame I was looking forward to him taking over as Walker's deputy, which as a fast attacking FB he's a good l'ike for like' deputy - but if Smith goes, Naughton stays

Not surprised. With Fredericks seemingly leapfrogging him in the RB pecking order (and younger than Smith), fourth string at 22 is time to look elsewhere. Was very impressed with Fredericks' confidence upon coming into that Europa game, so I view this as no loss whatsoever. Good luck to the lad though. Always happy to see our academy lads manage to make careers out of it, even if not immediately in the Prem.

Alex Aldridge ‏@accordingtoaldo Apparently former #millwall loanee Adam Smith is signing for #afcb, permanently, for £250,000. Absolute bargain if that fee is accurate.

Alex Aldridge ‏@accordingtoaldo Yep, very good attacking full back at this level.

You may be right that it was Fredericks or Smith to keep and the other to leave. However before the EL game I think most youth watchers would have believed that it would be Fredericks going - Smith is also a decent LB, unlike Fredericks.

However making a career at Championship level is still a good level for one of our Academy products.

Best of luck to him - and hope we have both a buy back option and a sell on % !

I think him and Flanagan have a lot of similarities in regards to their skillsets. And, Flanagan has obviously seen some success for Liverpool this year. Smith is more quick than fast but he still reads the game incredibly well and is a quality contributor in attack. Hate letting him go for that cheap, personally.

Have to admit I too am not a fan of that price. This kid was a regular starter for the U-21's, he should be going for more.

However, from what I've seen of Fredericks he seems to have all these positives you've listed as well. I'm glad we went with the younger and confident-looking choice, but that is theft from Bournemouth's standpoint.

Maybe with a 50% sell-on clause. Levy wouldn't sell that cheap.

At 22, he had to move on. Good player, I fully expect him to be more than a Championship player.

Bargain for them. I'd presume we get a fair chunk of the next fee... which I also presume will be at least 10-20 times higher that the one quoted above.

Being a Yid based in Sarf London, I have a few Millwall supporting friends. They all absolutely raved about Smith when he was with them and I am surprised he was never given a chance to play for us. I wish him all the best and hope he can make a success of his career.

Kyle Walker-Peters has looked great at RB for the U-18's every time I've seen him so maybe that had some bearing on letting him leave.

Fully agree that Walker-Peters looks a good prospect and longer term might be the man to understudy WAlker but he's not yet 17 (dob 13.04.1997) so not sure that is the reason why he's moving on. Fredericks this season has an advantage as an under 21 not needing a squad place, but is now 21 so will need to be registered in the squad next season, and had a good EL debut but I'm not sure whether he is good enough long term to deputise at RB - but time will tell. In the short term it looks like either Naughton and/or Fredericks as the squad RB.

Fair enough. Get the feeling that Naughton keeps Walker a happy bunny at Spurs, and he's not that bad when he plays RB.

Yes they know each other from Sheffield United days which may have a bearing in why Naughton is still here - but as yiu say he is a decent RB (although slower than Walker, Smith or Fredericks) so definitely not a like for like, and despite some comments a decent 'emergency' LB - although definitrely not a regular starter there for a top side - and also emergenct CB (used there by Norwich), so reasonably versatile as well.

I've only ever seen Smith play for the England U21s but he looked a very decent prospect. He obviously hasn't trained on or has been overtaken in the pecking order. Far better to let him go while he still has a chance of a decent career at a lower level. Good luck to him.
