Not at all, quite the contrary in fact.

And yet the words would be exactly the same, just spoken by different people and the reaction would be completely different.

As someone else has said, if people interpret the chant as racist, then at least in some small way it must be, but there are more than one way to interpret something.

Maybe they didn't take offense because they decided the people who were calling them chocolate man didn't mean to offend and also maybe took into account the cultural situation. The fact that there is a high likely hood that they have never come in contact with a black person before.

Have you been to Pattaya??!! Lots of American GIs from all walks of life there, stopping off to enjoy the ringbars.

The only fact is that they have come into contact, and lots of it, with just about all colours, creeds, religions, shapes and sizes

Anyway, back on topic, what's the betting it'll be sung on Sunday. High.

Yes, of course it will be sung on Sunday no doubt about that.

This debate (which has been a very long one considering it only started on Friday) hopefully will go some ways in probably opening the eyes of some the chanters who read it, then again probably not

I am of Jamaican ancestry, and by extension African ancestry, and the song is not racist. It is offensive and nasty, but not racist.
A matter of opinion as to whether not it is racist, but at least you agree that it is offensive and nasty, and you dont see anything wrong with that?
I really don't know what the fuss is about. The guy gets 50 grand a week and most of us earn peanuts, do you reckon he is losing sleep over it?
The fuss is over the chants being offensive thats what. In your own words you agree that it is offensive. But because he is rich it makes it okay then.....

The Person who started the thread didnst say it was racist, he said it was wrong where most will agree.

The racist angle evolved as the debate developed.

:) You were going so well.......

Anyway, i've worked it out. It's just a new song and a tune the Spurs supporters haven't had a popular song for before now. The Adebayor song will soon cease and that tune will be used for another song. Every new tune (tune, not song) gets lots of airing whether it's funny or not. I'm sure the tune will be used to good effect in a pro Spurs player type way in the coming weeks.

I'll fucking make sure of it.

yes hopefully that will happen...

I just don't think we would be singing about his Mum being a whore if he were a Gooner from, say, London, France, Spain or Argentina...

I'm all for a bit of banter, but just don't think there is any need to call anyone a paedophile, say their Mum's a whore, or that their Dad washes elephants...

I loved the pro-Spurs and Wembley songs though and had a great night!

And by the way, for those present, I was the one who ripped the Arsenal shirt off the ceiling of that bar... so I'm not that politically correct ;-)

bugger me! 20 pages. are we any closer to and answer to my post??

nahhh

dont think we will ever get any closer to an answer

everyones views are diffrent, one thing to one person might be hight racist, when another see's it as not... yet the roles could be reversed with something else which is said

as Ray said, he thinks there are diffrent levels of racisum, dont think it is totaly true, as one person somewhere will probably always find it racist and not like, so as long as if effects 1 person then its racist, no matter if another person thinks it is a laugh!

anyway, i said it wasnt racist to start off in here, but after saying all i have said i can see it is racist and even though in my eyes its not as bad as some make out, someone can easly find it racist and tehrefor shouldnt be sung (like i said to start with anyway)

Would the song be sung to Shaun Wright Philips, William Gallas, Jason Roberts, Emile Heskey etc etc

No, because in my opinion the relevance is to where he is from, not the colour of his skin.

So, according to that singing about Gilberto Silva's dad selling havaianas on copa cobana beach would be frowned upon, as would singing that Postiga came from Portugal and hates the Arsenal.

It might not be relevant, it might not be factually correct, but then equally my old man did not say to me to be an Ar5enal fan, and I did not say fuck off bollox you're a ****. Doesn't mean I shouldn't sing it.

The only reason his mum's a whore is cos he's called Adebayor. If he was called Adebayoony, his mum would be a noony. If he was called Adebayunt... etc. The 'mum's a whore' bit is nothing at all to do with where he comes from and everything to do with a good rhyme. In fact, if he was called Adebayelegantbosher, maybe this thread wouldn't need to exist. It'd still be racist, but fuck me it'd be clever.

what a load of b*ks

if you want rascist listen to manure fans

park, park, where ever you may be
you eat rats in your own country
it could be worse
you could be scouse
living in a council house

now that is about their own player!

Anyhow how do you know that adebayor has not set his family up as a multi franchise elephant washing operation - we wash you go, that sort of thing, £10 for a small one rising to £20 for the larger ones including tusk polish, and trunk clearing?

Could be something in it you know, euro car washes started somewhere

He got the song wrong

Park Park whereever you may be
They eat dogs in your home country
But it could be worse
You could be scouse
Eating rats in your council house

Rats are a reference to one of their other songs which is an adaptation of "In our Liverpool homes".

In your Liverpool slums
In your Liverpool slums
You look in the dusbin for something to eat
You find a dead rat and you think its a treat
In your Liverpool slums
In your Liverpool slums

As for offending Korean players we sing

He'll shoot, he'll score
He'll eat your Labrador
Lee Young Pyo

Personally I find both Adebayor songs crap lacking any original thought and the cultural references are racist. Best rendition of the Sloop John B chorus I've heard is a United version "We paid for their homes" with numerous verses.

I'll be fucking ashamed if i hear it through the tv. I hope for the club's sake it won't be sung.

It wont be sung by everyone - is only a real away game it gets sung. CC will be more of our home fans and family there - so it wont be sung.
