30m 28y , no chance
Wrong. I'm not saying this specific transfer will happen (although I fully believe it is quite possible), but to dismiss it simply because of this limited info is incorrect. He is born in 1989. Guess who else was born in 1989 and with a high price tag? Sissoko. So please people, let's stop acting as if we have this written-in-stone insight, because the club clearly has no absolute rule about age and price tags.

Think I might wait until verification from itk before I fully believe it bit if true we must have done our homework on this, and so I trust the club on this.

Have any decent English Media picked this up. For a deal to be so close yet hear nothing from the English side seems odd.

As a side-note I'd rather we let Winks and Onomah be the rotation options for us in midfield, and spend that kind of money further up. Winks was showing last season that he could become a regular starter for us if Dembele gets injured, and Onomah has even said he has been learning his game from Dembele and looked like a mini version of him at the World Cup U-20 ( although that is only U-20's)

I do agree with you on one hand, but on the other hand, we were lightweight when Dembele was out last season.

I'm all for giving youngsters a chance but experience helps in getting you over the line, and so if this is true I would welcome it.

We were light weight when Dembele and Winks were out. We had a perfect system going, Winks would come on around 60-70 mins for Dembele, and start mid week games. It kept Dembele fit and developed Winks. When Winks got injured Dembele had to play full games and twice a week and broke down. If we also add Onomah in his preferred position, which I hope Poch now does after seeing his U-20 performances, then we suddenly have much more depth.

More depth, but light weight in experience. I think Winks and Onomah are great assets, but neither one of them knows how to boss a match yet. They'll learn that in time, and in the meantime, this link makes sense.

If we're looking to bring in a 'winner' with 'experience' I'd rather they'd done it in one of the big leagues.

Right, but we might be looking for an "experienced" "winner" who'd "like to come to us", who has "acceptable salary expectations" and who can "contribute" both with "passes" and "defensive workload". All of the sudden, that list looks slim.

Apparently Jornal Noticias are meant to very reliable when it comes to Portuguese news, still find it weird that no real english media have picked this up

Why bother then? Sounds like making a signing for the sake of making a signing.

This one isn't going away thats for sure. Looks a nice player, reminds me of Modric in the way he moves and passes the ball - not suggesting he's as good as Luka before anyone gets all salty about it.

Anyway, at 28 it seems unlikely we'd sign him but Andrew Gaffney (La Liga expert on Twitter) was asked about it and he recommended this chap below for Portugese news.......

Obviously he meant ball-carrier.

Well , he also said later this

@TiagoEstv
Although I think it could very well happen, I wouldn't advise you to trust portuguese press

He is not in 'In the Know' , so only gave a second hand opinion earlier. It could be wrong, corrrect, whatever...

£28m for a ball barrier? Couldn't we just get one of those freekick dummies the players use in training?

Well, he has a better final ball than Dembele and is also a leader with good character.

Fair enough. Cant see it happening myself but wouldn't be against it, if it did.

Dembele is so hard to rely on for the whole season and while I rate Winks highly, I think getting another good midfielder in like this guy who can pass well and release the ball early to our attackers would be a good option.

Regarding Dembele, hes so injury prone that you have to ask how much longer he actually has at premier league level. 2 more seasons maybe?

With Winks and Onomah deserving a chance in CM, I think it would send out a poor message to the Academy to bring in an older foreign player who'd inevitably be in front of them. Onomah in particular would surely have to leave, with Winks ahead of him.

Also, given we really need a striker, AM, centre back and probably a new right back, spending time and money on the lowest priority position would be plain baffling. With Wanyama, Dembele, Dier, Winks and Onomah, we're very well stocked for those 2 positions.
