He's not really like Modric at all. Loses possession quite often but a real goal threat and pretty pacy. Basically he's very much an attacking midfielder who would be vying for the Gylfi/VdV position. A good player but not one that we need or frankly are likely to be able to get.

I agree he's not a direct replacement for Modric, certainly not the way we played Modric. More a Silva type.

I actually think we need this more than we need anything else. Everyone says the strikers were the problem the last two years, but I think it was the creators that were the bigger problem. We do not create enough quality chances and we don't have enough people that can score outside the striker pool.

I know we desperately need a striker (I'm sure we'll get one) but after that I think we are woefully short in the creative department. People that have some craft in the final third. We have Lennon and Bale. Lennon has very little craft at all and Bale does deliver more often, but he's still more about power and pace than guile.

I would love us to bring in Dzagoev and Affelay.

Am I the only one who thinks this move wouldn't make a whole lot of sense?

Arshavin was the catalyst for that Russian team. Dzagoev had some nice finishes but what he didn't show me was great dribbling, guile, creativity, or athletic ability. If he was a livewire and always made something happen, like Arshavin, I'd take him easily. But to me he looked more comfortable in the VDV position (which we also have Gylfi in) and as a right forward was decent but didn't really create much.

Just my opinion, and I think he was good for CSKA (in the 4 CL matches I saw) but that was in the VDV/Sig position. I'd like us to look at other options for the RW position.

If nothing else, I felt like this compvideo of him was extremely well made:

Actually gave me chills watching it. Especially the moment after the goal when he goes directly to his knees and just belts out. Such a well-done piece.

Someone on another thread suggested we can still do this because the Russian window is still open. Is this true?

Haven't watched anything of this guy really apart from a little bit in the Euros but isn't this what we've now got Dempsey for? An attacking mid/forward that can play wide in a front 3.

In essence, yes it is. At about a third of the price as well.

The difference being Dzagoev is 22 with a ton of upside and the chance to increase his value in the long run.
