Having missed out on Michael Keane, who joined Everton, Tottenham have seen one bid turned down for Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson and are now considering another offer.

Swansea want £30m for England Under-21 international Mawson, but Spurs could try to offer Josh Onomah on loan to the Welsh club as part of a lower bid.

That would be a fantastic loan for Josh.

They ain't gettin' £30 mill though. lol

Agents girls day. Aside from that, we would never pay quoted price for player of his ilk.

He could definitely do as well as Jack Cork and he could rekindle things with Carroll. But would Poch consider it since he likes to keep the promising ones?

Gotta give you credit on your "Mawson's got something" early claims. It was the reason I started to pay attention to him. Don't think he would be bad for us but not necessarily in lieu of Wimmer.

He's definitely got more potential than Keane, for me.

He's the only centre back we've been linked with that I'd like. Goal threat, too. What's not to like?

30m for this one, 30m for King. This transfer window's prices have gone mad.

I think now more than ever it's time to bet in south america, where prices have not changed, yet

And give more opportunities to our of development players.

We can't be hypocrites about the prices ...we're looking at 40-50M for Walker a right back!

I imagine we'd struggle to get a work permit for most of them though.

Swansea play out from the back, and Mawson is very comfortable doing so from the games I've seen (I went to six Swansea games last year). He's got a cracking volley on him too.
I think players from Swansea are usually technically good. If we're also talking about his passing ability, watch this Mawson pass to Naughton at 1:10 (if you have a Sky account), pretty awesome long ball.

Watched him a few times last season and again 2 or 3 times in the U-21's recently and he struggles when pressed. It's a first touch and control thing.

Swansea City insist they've had no bids for Alfie Mawson amid increased Tottenham Hotspur speculation

Reports suggested Tottenham had tabled a bid for the former Barnsley man

Swansea City insist they have not received any offers for Alfie Mawson as they plan for the new season with the England Under-21 international firmly part of Paul Clement's plans.

Tottenham have been linked with a big-money move for a player who just three years ago was plying his trade in the non-league game.

Reports claim Swansea have already rejected an offer, with Spurs set to return with an improved bid including Josh Onomah as a makeweight.

But sources at Swansea insist they have not received any bids nor serious interest in Mawson.

Given Mawson is still developing as a player, Swansea could be forgiven for believing the defender's value will only increase over time and will not see the immediate need to cash in when he could be a few years away from hitting his peak.

Barnsley would be due a small percentage of any deal, having negotiated a sell-on fee when the defender left Oakwell.

In addition, the player himself recently stated his desire to remain at the Liberty in the long term.

"The supporters have taken to me, and I have taken to them. It’s a great club. When I signed I knew Swansea’s philosophy and I think from the back end of the season we got back to that style," Mawson told The Guardian .

"But what I didn’t know when I joined was what the area would be like. But I love it there. I really do. And I don’t see myself being anywhere else for a long time.

"I want to be seen as a young leader. I want to be that player that in five or six years’ time young players come to me and ask for advice."

He's one of three decent centre back talents (along with Keane and Holding) coming through that I think will all eclipse Stones.

Agreed and I think Gibson aswell, like said above. I think Stones moved too early, he needed to get his head down and not believe all the hype that he was the next Bobby Moore etc etc. He, at the moment, is a very raw, average premier league defender with a hell of a lot to learn.

I think Mawson will be a superb pick up for us. Has so much going for him. Watched him closely against Germany U21s and he was a colossus. We were under a lot of pressure all game. Seems to possess leadership qualities and is a big threat in the box which is always valuable at the top level. Also does try and get his head up on the ball (helped by being at Swansea I guess).

Might not have the buzz around him Keane and even Gibson do, but not only does he play for a more open and compatible team to us, all of the points above seem pretty spot on for a CB in my book.
