Except for Pav, who's record this season has been pretty decent.
How good could Pav actually be
No it hasn't
He managed to make himself look much better with those two goals on the last day. He'd been dropped before then because he was so bad against Blackpool he was taken off at half time (and rightly so) - of course then Defoe (who you despise Nic) scored our equaliser.
Prior to yesterday he had 8 league goals in 28 appearances. That's not really a pretty decent record. I've also already pointed out previously how only a few of his goals were either against top opposition or in games we weren't already comfortably winning.
He's certainly gotten better towards the end of the season (at least up until the Blackpool game) and though I have a go at him he's probably been the best of our three strikers.
But the important point is that being the best of the worst set of strikers outside Birmingham does not mean Pav did remotely well enough to justify his place.
If we can get just one great striker in I won't mind him staying. But I still don't think he's good enough for us, and if we can get an improvement I say go for it.
Great, if he really wanted. A full season of maximum effort from him, like he shows in maybe 1 in 3 games, plus a big, strong, quick strike partner to do the dogsbody work, and he has the natural talent to be very successful. He's a 15-20 goals a season striker when he can be bothered.
Given how long he's been playing the game and his failure to do this so far, though, you have to say it's unlikely to suddenly happen now.
Pav's scored some bloody nice goals this year actually
