If the release clause is legitimate, he's interested and Conte wants him, it's something of a no brainer, as you could easily sell him for a lot more than £35m even if he didn't tear up any trees with us.

I suspect he'll stay at Newcastle though, given their financial muscle and likely upward trajectory.

I’m getting excited at the thought of us signing him so I expect it won’t happen! ?

I certainly don’t see him as a first team starter. However, should Bergwijn wish to go then someone like ASM wouldn’t be the worst choice as a replacement in the squad. Personally, I would rather Bergwijn stayed.

Along with also weakening Newcastle, this is a no brainer if the release clause is legit (as others have said).

And I'm also pro-Traore if he's being bought as a gamechanging sub/unicorn player who can give us a completely different dimension.

I just don’t understand this. Bergwijn has had one good match in 3 years yet ASM has been incredible this season.

Yeah but he's more tier 1 who'd cost an absolute fortune, and therefore impede our other business. This is more about value speed merchants who will be good squad players.

How much of Newcastle have you watched this season, as that's definitely not what I'm hearing. I've heard he's been streaky, and has been in and out of the team since Howe's arrival.
I've only seen him 3 times this season, and it might have only been 2, as I can't remember if he played at WHL. In 2 of these games he was unmemorable, and against the scum he was decent.
Edit: I tell a lie, I watched him against united and he was very good on that night.

ASM stats are remarkably similar to Moura's over the last 3 years, and I guess he has had more playing time. In addition he is a poor defender and weak in the air. Could replace Stevie, but think the latter has greater potential.

Yeah and ASM is much better suited to being an impact/squad player due to his directness. Even at Newcastle he's specifically used off the bench at times.

Bergwijn is a massive confidence player and plays within himself 90% of the time for Spurs. As long as he's a squad player we'll never get the best out of him - he's not got the mentality for this type of role in the squad and needs to be fully backed to excel.

Guaranteed Bergwijn tears it up for Ajax and everyone says "why did we let him go?" but it's impossible to get the best out of him when he's not confident in his role in the side.

I don’t think ASM would be a game changer for us.

In terms of Sterling - can’t make goals, very wasteful, scores in the City team but I don’t think he would get many in others.

Not the biggest fan of ASM, but thinking about it, for times when we have lots of games in a short period of time and we need to keep the frontline fresh without dropping the quality too much and maintaining some sort of fear factor, he wouldn't be the worst option.

The big thing is that opposing teams would still think ok, no Son/Kulusevski, but we still have to keep an eye on ASM as he can be dangerous. And despite what we think of either of them, neither Lucas or Bergwijn quite have that.

Not sure how high up the list I'd like him to be but wouldn't be displeased if the transfer came to be.

This. At times he had to single handedly carry the front line for Newcastle and still cause mayhem for the opposition.

Bringing him in solves for:

1) 5 sub rule - injection of energy
2) Penetrating teams that park the bus
3) keeping front 3 fresh
4) Keeping other defences on their toes when Son/Kulu need a rest

Maybe ASM doesn’t fancy staying at a club run by human rights abusers. If he’s as intelligent as some of you are saying then he could be looking for a way out.

Torture
Executions of homosexuals
Discrimination of women

Basically medieval and backwards, anyone with any sense of moral decency wouldn’t be staying there.

I think it’s unlikely that this would be his reason to leave.

Just had a look on the main Newcastle forum and a lot of them feel it's time to move him on due to his lack of end product and defensive output. They feel they can do better and now would be a good time to cash in.

Definitely not quite as beloved among their fans (at least online) as it seems from the outside.

Makes sense really - at Spurs I certainly wouldn't want him as a guaranteed starter. He's way too erratic.
