Berba possibly leaving the club is not bothering me for some reason. Sure I acknowledge the fact that he is indeed a great player who has lit up the lane and many other grounds across england and the rest of europe in a spurs shirt, but I kinda think we might be ok without him.

Few reasons and here they are. Team morale. We need only look at the scummers early season form and team spirit after their talisman had flown the coop. other players took greater responability and they looked good. Until that night at the lane ha ha. Berba is something of a talisman for us. Without him I feel the rest of the team will pull together. Bent will get a few more games to show what he can do (I haven't written him off yet). Theres only so many times a young player can take having a senior professional a la berba throw their hands up in the air when something they've tried doesn't come off before confidence takes a major hit. I'm not saying our morale is really bad, just think it could be better.

Prospect of new signings. The very fact that berba was/is so good will encourage and attract a player of better quality to come and try to replace him. Now saying that there may not be many better than him in the owrld at the moment but there may be a better player for spurs who'll fill the void left by his departure. Our signings last summer largely were disapointing. Transfer window was much better. I belivev that a player who sees an oppurtunity to go someplace enhance their reputation would see us as a good prospect. I don't think that the truly big players look at other ones and think theres no way I could relpace them at a club.

The fee we get for him. Chances are this'll be big. Thank goodness he's going while this is still the case. Next season he could be terrible, and at least he's not doing a Sol. The money hopefully can be used to reinvest in playing staff. And heres where I believe we'll do better this summer. Already we've had Modric sign which in fairness has blown me away, the fact isn't that he's a marquee player, it's that he's what we needed. Just like the January trasfer window. Players and positons were filled where we needed. I think with the money from Berba and the investment from our board who do seem to back our coaching staff we could be looking at some really exciting signings, onces which make sense.

Lastly, He deserves the Big Bucks. I don't begrudge Berba anything. He's given us some brilliant memories over the last two years and he in my opinion deserves to get the big move to a bigger club. He woukldn't be out of place in the Champions League final and we all know that. If we were at that point that I'd be gutted he would leave us, but we're not, so good luck to him I say.

Obviously this post is open to disection from all of you lot and it's hardly a comprehensive list of reasons why he can go, but there just the thoughts in my head today.

Am I the only one not bothered by berba leaving?

Probably!

I suspect most people would prefer he stayed but in the circumstances just want it over with for a good fee, not quite the same but close.

I don't want him to leave because no team should ever want class players to leave.

Arsenal and United both lost Henry & van Nistelrooy & there was outcry, BUT they had many other world class players in the team - we arguably don't.

However I still don't think it's the be all and end all, and if Mido & Keane with the aid of Carrick can form a good partnership and fire us to the verge of the CL, then I have no doubts that Bent & Keane can do the same with the aid of Modric.

Of course I'd love him to stay, but only if he wanted to stay and play for us.
However, if we get a good amount of money, I won't be gutted about it.

As a realist, we cannot offer the best footballing tournaments (challenging league and CL), so its inevitable that someone of Berba's quality wants to be tested at the top.

I hope we do start challenging those, buts its going to be a very hard task and one I cannot see us doing for a few more years yet. (I so hope I get to eat those words though!).

So, your not alone.

You should be bothered.

that is all....

Sorry, I will try to be. I was bothered when Carrick left. I was bothered when Clive allen left. Just don;t feel the same here. Maybe I didn't/don;t love him as others do.

Lets be fair he's hardly commited himself to the club has he ?? Even if he does already have 3 years to run on his contract, it doesnt seem to be worth the paper its written on these days.

In my opinion, if he goes - then good. We'll move on, we still have Keane & Bent, and were likely to add to that too. If Berbatov stays then i would think it is a long term career decision to stay with Tottenham until into his 30's.

If its Champions League football he wants, then fair enough. Theres nothing to say he wouldnt be able to achieve that here, but the likeliness is the teams prepared to splash out for him can offer that reguarly - the only thing they cant is first team football.

Dimitar will turn into a bit part player, he wont be no world beater. He's good, but he's not that good. There are others just as good or better. As for the club we should clear up a tidy little profit for our man, and hopefully we will further strengthen the squad with which Juande Ramos can begin the assault for a tilt at the top four places in the Premier League.

Its goodbye, or your welcome to stay if you want to ?? We'll always be here, but please remember to switch off the light on the way out if you choose to go.

i dont want him to go, and it all depends on who we bring in depening on if i will miss him going or not! i d agree with some of the poitns but beabtov is leagues above any other player we have just now and to say we wont miss him without knowing who is coming in or how we will play with out him against bigger clubs is a bit quick off the mark!

Just been checking out the BBC gossip, we get quite a few mentions:

Eto + Diarra + Ferdinand + Kapo = Berbatov

I don't want him to go but if his mind is made up and we can replace him with some decent signings to strengthen the squad then he'll be forgotten as soon as he signs elsewhere.

i think a lot of people dont get so upset now because of the acceptance of the fact your modern player is just a money grabbin b*#tard (generally).

cynical i know but appears to be more true as every year passess:cry:

I am bothered yes, more so that when Carrick left....but it's also a relife, as I was getting tired of his family and agent weekly tellin the Bulgarian press - and then bad English translations to follow - about they son/client wanting/deserving to play for another club.
All the best to Berba, and who can blame him for choosing Milan/Barca/Real over Spurs...?

Though I'd want him to stay I'm resigned to the fact that he'll be gone. But if by any chance he stays, it'll be as good as a 5-star new signing.

I don't begrudge Berba anything. ... He wouldn't be out of place in the Champions League final and we all know that.

But he was! I was there.
Ultimately, though, what's the point of signing a 4-year contract, with a 2-year option, if you can just up sticks and sod off when one of the "big boys" comes calling after just 2 years?
Why sign a contract at all?
As far as I'm concerned, if he's definitely leaving, he can f-off right now and I hope Ramos puts him on the bench on Sunday and keeps him there.
But then I'm just a bitter and twisted individual, I know.

Clearly Berb is a class player, it's a shame that he wants to leave as he would walk in to any club team's first eleven. But it's getting to the point now that I want the circus to end and him to leave asap so we can move on. There are also ways to look at it positively:

- Our problem is not scoring goals.... Bent and Keane would get 50 goals between them across a season. 25 mill could provide us with an opportunity to invest in other areas of the team and buy a replacement

- Berb is 27/28? he prob has 3 more seasons at his peak. If we can get 25 mill for him and sell him to a foreign club then that is not bad business.

- The Henry effect. Similar to when Henry left Arse, if Berb left it might actually help morale inside the club, other players might start to take more responsibility in games and we might start to really gel as a team. The media may also write us off which will ease a little pressure of the team and manager.

ps dont hold your breath but this might also be another reason...

Do I want him to go? Of course not. Do I expect him to go? Yes

That he is likely to leave us is a crying shame, but I also feel privileged to have seen the man in a Spurs shirt!

It also just goes to show the intent of the modern footballer. Either their team really progresses, or they leave and I feel it is more likely that 'top' players will leave Prem teams, because of the difficulty of breaking into the top 4.

Having said that, of course, it is the job of ALL players to improve and as a team game, then all players must shoulder responsibility for any team failing to make progress.

So it's "thanks for the memories, Berb-man", but my bigger concerns are over those who are yet to come in
