Am I the only one not bothered by berba leaving?

No-one is bigger than the club, not even Berbatov.

I don't want him to go, but I don't want a player at Spurs that doesn't want to be here. Plus the large fee that we'll command will be very nice.

I love Berabtov. think he's a specail player but I can see a bright future for us without him.

We easily outplayed a team figthing for thier lives in thier back yard without berbatov and without even trying.

if he goes which looks likely im confident Ramos will find a system with which we can cope with the loss. i'd much rather he left than he stayed and didnt try his best because deep down he wants to be somewhere else

No your not the only one. Last season i would have been but given where we are now i think there's a much positives in him leaving and us getting a big wad of cash as him staying.

Few reasons and here they are. Team morale. We need only look at the scummers early season form and team spirit after their talisman had flown the coop. other players took greater responability and they looked good. Until that night at the lane ha ha. Berba is something of a talisman for us. Without him I feel the rest of the team will pull together. Bent will get a few more games to show what he can do (I haven't written him off yet). Theres only so many times a young player can take having a senior professional a la berba throw their hands up in the air when something they've tried doesn't come off before confidence takes a major hit. I'm not saying our morale is really bad, just think it could be better.

All well and good saying that, but it works both ways doesn't it - your scenario is one possibility, but just as likely is that the other players become disheartened by him leaving. We're renowned legends, the idea of players like Jenas and Bent stepping up in his absence and playing out of their skin seems a long shot.

Prospect of new signings. The very fact that berba was/is so good will encourage and attract a player of better quality to come and try to replace him. Now saying that there may not be many better than him in the owrld at the moment but there may be a better player for spurs who'll fill the void left by his departure. Our signings last summer largely were disapointing. Transfer window was much better. I belivev that a player who sees an oppurtunity to go someplace enhance their reputation would see us as a good prospect. I don't think that the truly big players look at other ones and think theres no way I could relpace them at a club.

Again, isn't it more likely that him leaving will have a negative effect on our ability to sign players? Wouldn't Eto'o or Villa be more likely to think 'great, I could play alongside Berbatov' than 'great, I could play for the side Berbatov used to play for'?

The fee we get for him. Chances are this'll be big. Thank goodness he's going while this is still the case. Next season he could be terrible, and at least he's not doing a Sol. The money hopefully can be used to reinvest in playing staff. And heres where I believe we'll do better this summer. Already we've had Modric sign which in fairness has blown me away, the fact isn't that he's a marquee player, it's that he's what we needed. Just like the January trasfer window. Players and positons were filled where we needed. I think with the money from Berba and the investment from our board who do seem to back our coaching staff we could be looking at some really exciting signings, onces which make sense.

Thankfully this one I do agree on, and I think it's the most important one. Berbatov going would be a huge loss for us, but 25-30m well spent should make us a better side than we have currently with him in it. Keane and Bent up front with Veloso, Amelia and Bentley behind them would be a better side than Berby and Keane with Robbo, Huddlestone and Lennon behind them, IMO. The key is spending it well - we got 18m for Carrick and misspent it hugely.

If Berby goes and Ramos manages to get Eto'o in (presumably for less money), I think that would be the deal of the century - there aren't many better strikers than Berbatov, but Eto'o is certainly one of them. I'd take it as a straight swap, regardless of how much a 'Spurs type player' Berbatov is.

Lastly, He deserves the Big Bucks. I don't begrudge Berba anything. He's given us some brilliant memories over the last two years and he in my opinion deserves to get the big move to a bigger club. He woukldn't be out of place in the Champions League final and we all know that. If we were at that point that I'd be gutted he would leave us, but we're not, so good luck to him I say.

Can't argue with that. He turned down bigger sides to join us in the first place, citing the fact that we'd invested so much time in him. Equally we have to respect his wishes to play at the level he's capable of, and sadly we're not at that level and not likely to be while he's at his peak. A big transfer fee to an overseas club would be beneficial to all parties.

I have just glanced through your post and havent even read the rest of the replies, but I already know where I have stood with this issue since the beginning of time. If he wants to go let him. No one, no matter how good he is, or have been for the club, is bigger than my beloved Spurs. If the rumours are to believed, he doesnt want to stay so let him sod off, end of story. Bye Bye Berbs :adios:

Would agree that he is a great player and that I would love him to stay but if he stays and next season we get 4th and in the champions league, then the reports will be that we wants to play in a team capable of winning the champions league and league title so the rumours will persist until we are in a position to challenge for the titles (if ever)

Personally, I'm fed up of how unsettling he is. Admittedly he doesn't say much, but then he's not going out of his way to shut his agent up either.

We depend on him too much. Practically everything goes through him. He's our lynchpin and has compensated for our lack of class in the centre of the pitch. If we plan for life without him - utilising the funds generated from his sale - I think we'll see a much more potent and well-rounded force next season. A proper team, as opposed to Berba & friends.

At this point in time I would be more bothered if Keane or Woodgate went. They are both players who will slot into whatever system Ramos wants and will give their all for the cause not just next season but as long as we ask them to. This cant be said of Berba. The press and media always say "Berbatov - he plays at his own pace". Yeah he does, but he also makes the rest of our team play at his pace and at times thats not whats required. He'll be missed and I'll never be too critical of the guy, as either a player or a person, but football is a team game and with the right coaches (which we already have), the right captain (which we already have in Woodgate if King's not fit and in King if he is), a mix of youth and experience (Woodgate, Keane at one end of the spectrum, Bale, Hutton, Modric at the other) and ambitious signings this summer (Modric is a good start) then we will have a fucking good team next season, with or without Berbatov.

How many days until August?...

He's a great player, but I think this is a good time for him to go & I definitely agree that we'll be more of a team without him next season. Perhaps even more exicting to watch.

Think how much crappy media baggage we'll lose...selling both J.D & Berba in one year is perhaps not good for the team's quality but at least we'll have ditched both the media rumour mongers & Berba's agent. There's no one else in the squad that matches these two for transfer rumours.

Hoddle, Greaves, Ardiles, Gazza...they all left & we're still here.

I've just had enought of constant speculation, he's childish sulking, and his dickhead agent looking for a substantial payday.

You're not alone mate.

A player who clearly only plays to about 70% of his actual ability can 'do one' as far as i'm concerned.

Why anyone would want a player like that in their team is beyond me.

he is the best player i have had the pleasure of seeing live in recent seasons. He will be such a miss its untrue. Just think how badly we have missed carrick and double it. The only comfort I am holding onto is if we sign eto'o and ronaldinho which i doubt very much

Berba possibly leaving the club is not bothering me for some reason. Sure I acknowledge the fact that he is indeed a great player who has lit up the lane and many other grounds across england and the rest of europe in a spurs shirt, but I kinda think we might be ok without him.

Obviously this post is open to disection from all of you lot and it's hardly a comprehensive list of reasons why he can go, but there just the thoughts in my head today.

Agree wholeheartedly sir. What an excellent piece insightful and articulate :clap::clap:
