sorry but no.

The teams around us have improved considerably, except Arsenal.

The teams 'around' us all have significantly more resources than us. You can't compare us to Chelsea, City and United as their spending power is ridiculous compared to ours. Liverpool also have much deeper pockets than us at the moment and on top of that they sold their best player in January giving them an extra 50m.

The only team in the top 6 that is in a similar financial boat to us is Arsenal who, as you have pointed out, haven't improved considerably.

So unless your point is that 'we should have more money' then I'm not sure what your point is.

tired of that excuse, so when ever we play a top team its ok to be bent over and fucked to death?

well unfortunately we will be playing man city and united again this season, along with 2 chelsea games to come

unless ledley king and gallas recover and play a serious amount of games i predict more thrashings this season

its not an excuse of any kind, when Utd have their pick of any player they want because they are such a massive club and city can afford to buy the very best players because they have the money to we have to realise its nigh on impossible to be on a level playing field with them.

Exactly. There must be forwards out there who are a step up from Pav and Defoe who wouldn't require us to spend OTT. You've mentioned Ruiz and Cisse and I think Abel Hernandez was another one that was mentioned. Leandro also comes under that bracket I think.

Even if we'd just used the profit from player sales we should have been able to bring in a couple of 10m+ players in positions we are a bit weaker in.

Another good name tsh.

I appreciate that we have some great players already and to improve on them will involve a bit of a spend but why we're not looking at players in the same way we were when signing Berbatov or Modric is a bit beyond me.

10-15million for the right player could really help us.

Never mind, no use crying over spilt milk on this front.

Until January at least...

Disappointed we didn't add 2 more in, but overall it was a good window.

Key points for me are:-

1. Getting a number of players of our wage bill and moving them on, so come January or next Summer, we won't have to wait until the last minute to purchase players because of waiting for our current players to move on.

2. Walker, Friedel, Parker, and Adebayor have added to 4 areas that we were weak on last year.
- A young promising attacking full back
- Competition and an experienced goalkeeper for our existing error prone keeper.
- Experience, Hard working, Leadership in central midfield.
- A proven premiership goalscorer, good in the air, good on the floor that can hold up the ball, which we were crying out for last season.

3. Less players in the squad, with the amount of games this season, will mean keeping fringe players happier, and fitter with the more game time, making them more reliable to replace injuries or lack of form with the starting 11.

4. Youth player purchases like Coulibaly, Ceballos, and Falque adding with the promotion of Livermore, Rose, Kane, Carroll, Fredericks, Townsend signalling our intentions to look to the future and promote from within.

5. And lastly keeping Modric. Even if it means him playing not 100% in some games, I don't care. If we continue to bulk at any unhappy player or bigger clubs tapping up and causing players heads to turn, then bigger teams, and other players will just carry on doing exactly the same and we woudn't be able to stop it. We must show that we aren't going to be bullied by teams and players to get what they want.

The original article is maybe too rose tinted, but you my freind are too negative !

Liverpool's squad was poor and they have spent mega £'s in the last two windows but compare Spurs squad v Liverpool, are they better ? No.

Arsenal have gone backwards.

The three squads where Spurs cannot compete with are Man U, Man City and Chelsea - albeit they need to rebuild big time over the next few transfer windows due to their age.

If Spurs play well with the right tactics/lineups etc and no worse injuries than other sides we can still compete for 3rd/4th places, domestic cups and Europa League - its more down to management than anything else !

I cannot believe people are saying we have had an excellent window. We have pretty much stood still while our rivals have strengthened big time (except Arsenal). Even Stoke will be a threat to us now, we wont get close to the top 4 especially with Liverpool looking so strong now. Its not been a disasterous window but I really wouldnt call it excellent.

Our first eleven looks stronger now, but our squad is weaker....if we avoid injuries and major loss of form, then we may get away with it.

Whether it was by accident or actually planned, i'm glad that we didn't just random buy players with little thought...(ie .. Charlie Adam) i like the fact that we got the players in that we really needed,be it we could have upgraded on our CH's.

On the subject of rival teams and their strength compared to our; United have done what they always do and had a very conservative window used solely to bolster an already impressive squad. Liverpool have bought in a selection of new faces, but nearly all good squad players and not really much more an improvement than we have made. Woolwich got in late with a couple of, what i consider, very good deals, both experienced and suitable midfielders to try and patch the holes. That just leaves the two big spenders who have done exactly that. We can't compare to their spending power and it's ruining a beautiful competition. Sure, it's fun to have outstanding players in the league, but i've made my views clear on their tactics for a long time now and can't be arsed to repeat myself.

Overall, i don't see how anyone can be upset over this window - what were expecting, exactly? We already have a squad that's achieving 4th and 5th place, if anything it just highlights what a shit job Citeh did last season when spending so much.

And those whining we should've dealt with out outgoings way earlier in the window - do you not understand how football trading works now? Each manager wants the cheapest deal they can get. Each manager knows that, as a team on the brink of cracking that top four again, we were desperate to offload some of our higher paid squad members, so they waited until the last minute so they could force Dan's hand with some bargain basement prices. That's not his fault, it was always going to be this way, and to bring in masses of players when we don't even know if we'll be able to shift the current ones would simply have been retarded.

I like the signings we've made, it's a good mix of experience (Parker, Hellboy & Adebayor) and some younger/youth signings that show promise and could fill gaps well if they get their heads down and train hard, alongside our other impressive youngsters.

We all saw the product of a well drilled team of young players, who have the experience of training together and know each others game well, United gave us a perfect demonstration the other day, so why any of you are unsatisfied with us building on our next generation of stars is utterly beyond me.

Good window, as stated by the OP. Anyone predicting doom and gloom, i do trust you'll be good enough to come back in here if we do show the form they're capable of, as i will humbly doff my cap to you should we slump horribly.

Don't think i'll have to though but, whilst we have our fair share of clairvoyants, personally, i'm not big on predicting the future...

You only have to look at where Liverpool were when we finished 4th to see we've not pushed on properly.

Levy needs to get the stadium approved this season.

Overall, its clearly not a fantastic window. But could have been a lot worse. We can't really grumble with Parker and I think Adebayor is a cracking signing. My only real concern is the quality of our centre backs. I dont think any of them are solid enough, bar maybe Gallas but he needs to be fit first.

We will really need to work hard to protect them from centre of midfield and hopefully Parker will help with this.

Just as Talkshow Host has alluded to, how Modric reacts and plays will be key. If he settles down well, all could still be good.

Let's not forget the exciting young attacking players we've brought in.

:doh:Forgot about them

At the end of the day results on the pitch will define what sort of window this has been.

Ultimately, this is true.
Although I am a little disappointed that we didn't make any real coups, I did say, a couple of weeks ago that it wasn't really up to Modric to judge the ambition of our buys publicly - at the end of the day, most of us felt that he owed us another year, so if you brought in Bill & Fecking Ben for 39 pence and a lollipop, but qualified for CL or better this year, he doesn't really have any room gripes about our ambition IMHO
Let the management do their jobs and then judge after the event - and in this case, after the event will be next May.

Has jj actually gone?

Yeah...but you can still blame him if you want - everyone else will

If anyone succeeds in polishing a turd please let me know.

Actually fossilised crap polishes up quite nicely

Still can't see a shine coming off that turd.

Well, ger fossil hunting and DIY

we have played probably the top two teams in the league.

we are a point worse off than last season and im confident we can get more points from lower opposition

Exactly.

Yeah, gonna have to hold our breathes a bit until January, t'aint we lad :hump:

In regard to the OP, I'm in the strange position of being happy with our business, but still having a slight feeling of disappointment.
