You stats for comparing Trippier and Walker do not match the commentary in the article.

I feel vindicated by the lack of posts in this thread. Take note all you disbelievers!
3000ish posts over 11 years is not exactly prolific

Hi All

I've just finished this piece analysing the statistical performances of Spurs players with 15 or fewer Premier League starts last season.

The idea of the article is to determine which of the back-up players were most effective last season.

Hope you enjoy it.

Interesting article. Proves what we all knew in that our first 11 is clearly brilliant but we are seriously lacking in options off the bench, outside of Harry Winks of course.

The other thing that stands out is the contribution of Erik Lamela and how much we've arguably missed him this season. What might have been had we been able to utilise him all year. I personally think that without the injuries to Kane and Lamela that we'd have won the league. Chelsea suffered almost no injuries all season long, had we been similarly blessed then I like to think it would have been enough to get us over the line.

The only bit I take exception to is this:

"Since then, a mysterious hip injury has sidelined the former Roma man, and he seems unlikely to ever feature for Tottenham again."

Not sure that this is true. He's back in London and has done a number of posts on social media about Spurs and how he'll be back next season. Until it's plainly clear otherwise, he's a Spurs player and will be for the foreseeable future.

Decent enough article but doesn't accommodate the fact that some 'bench players' actually played far more than expected due either to injury or their own glowing form. For instance, if everyone is fit and we went 343, we'd likely see a first XI of:

Lloris
Alderweireld Dier Vertonghen
Walker Wanyama Dembele Rose
Alli Eriksen
Kane

Leaving us with a bench of:

Vorm Trippier Davies Sissoko Lamela Son Janssen

Or maybe Wimmer / Carter Vickers in for one of the full backs and Winks for Sissoko.
Davies and Son ended up starting over 15 games and did very well, while as we know Lamela was crocked most of the season. Vorm is an exceptional option as a back up keeper, while Trippier and a Winks received their dues in the article. Really only Sissoko, Janssen and Wimmer of the more common 'non starters' disappointed, with the former having been great anyway the previous season and the latter having an improved end of season. Basically, they all contributed.

I'm Nkrumah saying we don't need to strengthen, if we can we should, but the reality is that we have a pretty strong squad within which almost all players can be trusted.
