Have no one realised this thread was 4 years ago? Obviously the poll won't be correct...

I was shocked to see strikers wasn't the most voted and DM was the most voted. No arguments for GK...

Why, as I have said several times, punditry generally considered our striking options to be the best, as a foursome and not a first choice two, of all the big clubs, even the season before last. Our midfield, at the time, hwoever...Eek

Ha, too bad they're ineffective with out style of play.

If we sold them, Defoe would probably turn into Bent and ends up being his new club's top scorer. Same with Pav and Crouch.

Even Suarez joins our team he would just end up like Defoe, good only for a certain teams style of play.

Maybe we need a striker like Van Persie, considering Spurs and Arsenal style are the most similar.

I've been wondering is it our play or just our strikers are useless?

All things considered, I don't think they are as useless as some have been making out, just not quite top drawer and, therefore, exposed when asked to play tactically as a top drawer striker would. Time to replace them, as this team has outgrown them.

Did contribute to us qualifying for CL for the 1st time ever, however, so, thanks for that.

Agree with the first point SP but disagree with the second. I know I'm possibly the only person to think this on SC but I'd hang onto Crouch and Defoe. (And then look to add one absolutely top notch striker who can play up front by themselves and maybe one up and coming player). I really do think we're not far from being able to challenge for the title and believe that a) a transfer window of massive upheaval could undermine that and b) that Crouch and Defoe, despite their poor form this year, could contribute massively in the future.

1) I think it would be a mistake to get rid of our entire strikeforce in one window.

2) Only 1 - but what happens if he gets injured and we are back to having to choosse between either Crouch of JD to play off VDV, and finds goals so hard to come by again (I don't think we would, as I think we will have more goals form all overthe pitch next year, but it's a hypothetical)

3) Yeah, that's a good theory, but if we keep VDV can we really afford four strikers who are gonna get on the pitch one at a time (and will that limited game time keep them happy)

4) I agree.

p.s. I'm not suggesting selling VDV - just don't see us having four strikers, and don't think 3 strikers that includes Crouch and JD is a good bet.
