Stambouli. Other than that I think you're rightAlso, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this specific CM spot is the only spot we haven't purchased a player at since Poch has arrived.

Nope. Also, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this specific CM spot is the only spot we haven't purchased a player at since Poch has arrived.
Even Dele was bought a season and a half before we qualified for the CL. Our squad was much different when we brought in the players who are now mainstays. When Eriksen came in he had to compete against the likes of Sigurdsson to nail down a place. With Dele and Son they were trying to displace the likes of Chadli, Townsend, and Lamela.Dele was signed for a box-to-box role. Poch moved him forward eventually, didn't he?
This is basically the point I have been trying to make -- that our squad has progressed to where it's hard to make improvements. But this is a thread about a CM, not a forward player, and with Dembele and Sissoko seemingly on their way out that is the obvious place where we can, realistically, bring in an impact signing. So to see us linked with "meh" players like Gomes and Barrios is understandably frustrating to many.as fans we have to be realistic our attacking options have not needed the attention that other areas of the pitch have in the last three years, largely due to the emergence of son kane and alli as top class players. Now with additional revenue it would be nice to add a world class talent a marquee signing to that line up.
Totally forgot he even existed. How we made a profit on him and sold him to freaking PSG makes zero sense.Stambouli. Other than that I think you're right

On the whole this is absolutely true, but I think many are frustrated with our failures in the transfer market since we began to qualify for the CL. In that time the only players we've bought who have been unquestioned successes have been Wanyama and Sanchez, though the jury is still out on Lucas (where the early signs are good) and Aurier (where, well... not so much).
We haven't signed a single attacking player or non-defensive midfielder who has come in and made a major impact in years (though again I have hopes for Lucas), and there's a feeling that the squad has stagnated compared to our rivals. We've reached a point where our first XI is of a standard that it is very difficult to improve upon within our financial constraints, which I think is why we have found it so difficult to do successful business in recent windows. The most obvious place within the first team where we should be able to bring in a player who can slot right in is central midfield, so to see us linked with the likes of Barrios and Gomes is just compounding years of frustration for many of us.
Who is to say we aren't in for him - if he is available? ...What’s even more frustrating is we’re hearing gomes, barrios, and grealish (although don’t hate that one) when it’s rumored that players like Kovacic are available. If they are truly available, that’s the profile we should be in for.
Next season will be Eriksen's sixth season with us, and Son's fourth. In modern football that's a very long time for players to essentially go unchallenged. I'm going to go back and edit my earlier post to make it even more clear that I'm talking about the business we've done post-CL qualification.Son and Eriksen say hi
Nobody is to say but it is confirmed by itk here that we’re in for Gomes, barrios and grealish and that’s not incredibly exciting in a summer where spending is supposed to be higher than everWho is to say we aren't in for him - if he is available? ...
I want it all and I want it now ...
I think the most frustrating thing is that there's seemingly money to spend, but it's being spent on AMs that we're not in desperate need of. Targeting Pulisic for huge money is especially baffling when the midfield is such a weak spot for us.
I feel more AMs should be considered as icing on the cake at the stage.
I'd love to know why Poch thinks we're fine in midfield because it's pretty obvious that the current system and midfield personnel is not right for where we want to go.
If we are in/interested for those mentioned players then surely that has something to do with the manager wanting them ... No?Nobody is to say but it is confirmed by itk here that we’re in for Gomes, barrios and grealish and that’s not incredibly exciting in a summer where spending is supposed to be higher than ever

So you don't agree with the manager ...Yes but I’m not one of these “whatever Poch wants is gospel” people.
If we don't get a midfielder, I really hope so. But there is zero evidence that this is going to happen yet. We all know Poch and his preferences for two man midfields, whether that is 4-2-3-1 or the 5-2-2-1 systemI have a feeling that Eriksen or Alli will play more games in a deeper role this season
