I'm not sure why it has really surfaced now and not back then. Whether it's because he's now in the top league that it has come to light. If that's the case then obviously there's a flaw in the system. I'm not sure that's really the case though as players in the lower leagues have been punished for comments on social media.

It's difficult to capture everything I guess. Maybe Twitter/Facebook etc should monitor these things better. I thought those kind of comments were supposed to be banned anyway.
It's pure shit stirring. Nobody cares what a nobody says. What makes the better headline. Premier League Homophobe or Non League Homophobe? Each is as bad as the other.

Has this lad shown any signs in the last four years, that any of us are aware of, that lead us to believe he may be homophobic/bigoted in any way? Not that i'm aware of, so i'm prepared to go with benefit of doubt - i have no reason to think that is who he is now, he has admitted he was a dick and his life was in a different place back then. Unless he gives me cause to believe he is still a twat then i don't understand why anyone would hold this against him.

How long is he to be considered a... i dunno, menace? Will this be tarring him for the rest of time?

Anyone want to guess how many good, wholesome, friendly, community spirited and liberal people previously did something really shitty in their lives? It's sometimes argued that no human can be wholly good until they have had the opportunity to be definitively wicked, but this is what being a yoot is about - learning, knowledge and wisdom change your outlook as new data is added.

So, benefit of the doubt, until he gives me cause to label him as a bigot, as an adult, he's just a normal bloke.

It's because the 'desperately seeking outrage' mob are getting a bit restless because John Inverdale hasn't been on the telly for a few days.

Think it's a tad petty and ****ish to charge him now.

If he'd tweeted that recently he rightly should have had the book thrown at him but this was four years ago and his apology for me sounds sincere and truthful.

Twitter can be an evil place as too many people being idiots on there and it can come back to haunt you as seen on here.

It's a difficult one to judge, so no one should really.
In my younger days I have to admit that I had homophobic tendencies, influenced by my parents in part, also the group of friends I hung out with.
Then I travelled, met many people of different race, culture, creed and sexuality and it helped me to totally alter my perceptions towards those who are different to me.

I call the process "growing up."

I think the lad should be given the benefit of the doubt...

"Let he without sin cast the first stone."

It's a difficult one. For people to go dragging through someone's history in order to find a comment to take offence at is a bit sad. On the other hand what he said was pretty bad.
I'm a different generation (48) and grew up in a very homophobic world, driven by society, religion and all people of influence but over many years you have a duty to educate yourself, read, meet people, listen to other views and then form your own view of the world. My 16 yr old self wouldn't recognise me now but Gray is of a generation where he has the benefit of an equality agenda being in the news all his life. A modern day 21 yr old should have known better. What has he done in the last 4 years to show he's changed?
They should give him a warning about his future behaviour and ask him to do some voluntary work with a relevant group.

We have all said silly things when younger, i find it pathetic all this digging around trying to find something on someone just because he is now a PL striker.

It wasnt done last year was it.

He said a bad thing 4 years ago. Times have changed and people change. Going back 4 years to find and RT something people will find faux outrage over is as dumb as the tweet. The FA doing anything is dumb and anyone outraged over this is just an asshole.

Not squeeky clean by any means. I said those type of views don't change not that other immature behaviour etc doesn't. I think those feelings are deep rooted. Maybe they can though but that's only something someone with homophobic views etc can really say.

I do find these comments like "he's clearly more mature now" funny to read when they're based on nothing. I bet when John Terry apologised for his racist comments people didn't think the same way. And I still think Terry has racist thoughts he just knows not to make them public now.

I don't understand how you can say that my belief that he's matured is based on nothing yet youre willing to hold onto some tweets of 4 years ago to still think he's homophobic? Homophobic views don't change, well that's utter bull...I know people who used to be homophobic, racist, prejudice when they were younger yet they are up and now integrate with people from other races, religions etc...Why because they've grown up and matured and realised that they were wrong and I believe that to be the same case for Gray.

Also I dont know why you're taking about John Terry who we know what kind of individual he is, the two players don't have comparable situations at all.

And has he killed anyone in the last four years since that tweet? Has he actually killed anyone?

Yes it was wrong, ive also said ill wanna kill him or kill her or want someone to die... we have all been there. We have also all said to our mates such things. Like i say it was wrong for him to tweet it but bloody hell in the last four years we are witnessing fucking terrorists kill a whole bunch of people and all we care about is a tweet from who was back then a nobody.

I stole an apple when i was 16, should i be punished 19 years later? Does that make me a thief 19 years later?

Inciting murder?, Jesus Christ - people love to be outraged for absolutely no reason these days don't they? We are well and truly in the era of faux outrage over nonesense. :D

Do you even know Gray? I bet most people who say he's probably changed hadn't even heard of him before this. It just makes me laugh that people assume he's changed just because of the nature of his tweet. He deserves the punishment and hopefully he keeps his offensive opinions to himself from now on.

He did also say that Joey Barton sucks dick and he hates Theo Walcott. If he stands by those tweets I will forgive him

And yet you are willing to cast judgement without knowing him. Your world is so Black and White that there is no allowance for people to mature.

You laugh at people making assumptions, then "assume" that he's insincere. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Not at all, he was caught out and now I judge him for it. He has to prove he has changed. I'm not assuming anything, he made a homophobic remark 4 years ago and I am criticising him for it. The only assumption can come about by assuming he has changed. You can't assume someone is something they've already been shown up to be.

I probably know him as much as you do but you're the one condemning him not me, surely you need to apply the same logic to your argument...

I suspect we have all made homophobic remarks or rather remarks about gays etc hell didnt we as spurs fans sing some crap songs about Sol Campbell. Doesnt mean we are homophobic.
