I don't think the atmosphere is going to be bad this season. I think the football we will play is going to change the mood a lot.
Afterall, football fans ate fickle.

A top performance and lots of goals soon quietens the dissent.

Typical football fans. All moody when their team is shit but happy when it's doing well.

Unprincipled gits.

I would honestly say that this guy would be worth at least 40 right now. In two years Man City, Real, and them guys will be all over him with 70+ mil offers.

At 19, have to accept Silva is not the finished article and still learning his trade so will be making mistakes. Yes he is an international but has only played 30 league games for Benfica. I think he has some great raw tools that could make a top defender. Looks another one who is comfortable defending higher up the pitch and is quite aggressive.

The question for me is for where we are right now, can we afford to have 2 young CB's in VDV and Silva with no real natural leader in at CB. Think even Romero needs a more calm head next to him.
I think it all depends on our expectations for next season

Personally I would be happy to get in some youngsters & adopt a much more attacking approach of play accepting that results won't always go our way & we may not hit top 4 but will finish 5 or 6. As long as it's entertaining & we have young decent players who we see incrementally improve with the hope of challenging in the following season (at the earliest)

Or whether we expect Ange to forego any sort of transitional period & hit top 4 immediately

Hang on, if the release clause is €100m then surely that means it's a non-starter. In no way are we spending that on one player.

Maybe an controversial opinion, I rather see him than Laporte
Not controversial to me. Completely agree that if we are embarking on a brave new approach, we need to go the whole hog and get youth throughout the squad. Young, hungry players who can be moulded to what the manager wants and be around for a long time .

Willing selling clubs don’t always insist on receiving the release clause amount. They can accept whatever they want. Release clause is only there to protect an unwilling seller and is usually much higher than actual value .

Surely he's going to be around 70m rather than 40m right now?

This is the club that got over 120m euros for a 19 year old after 1 full season, made about 100m euros profit on a midfielder who played only half a season with them, and bagged 80m euros for darwin nunez...

Just cannot see Benfica as a club we can buy one of their jewels from based on their past transfer business..

I get that, but why would they accept a lower fee for him when he's a very highly rated player and a nly going to get better? They won't.
