Getting Martial is never going to be simple. If there is any substance behind the rumours that he's available, then we wont have a free pass to his signature. I would expect a host of other top teams looking to bring him in, particularly Chelsea, who potentially could use Willian as a part of any deal..

I see this mentioned a lot but there are a few things that could affect this potential swap:-

a) whether Sarri wants to keep him and he's happy to stay.

b) the future of Hazard.

c) Whether Jose prefers Perisic/Rebic.

Martial occupies the same area of the pitch as Hazard, so if he stays they are probably better off looking elsewhere. Willian wanted the Barca move but jury's out on whether he'd be desperate to swap Chelsea for Utd. Chelsea do seem like they want to fight to keep them, so can't firm anything up until Sarri has spoken to them. Martial could also make things difficult by only wanting us.

Of course they would be a threat though, and Bayern have also been mentioned.

Is it ? Or is it the same single piece of missreporting being copied and put out by other 'news' sources ?

This morning's yes, but yesterday there was also the stuff on MEN/BBC/Associated Press about him telling team mates he wouldn't come back, the stuff about the disagreement with Mourinho.

Could all be 2+2=7 from him leaving for the birth of his son but there have been a few more stories circulating than the re-reporting of that throwaway line in RMC this morning.

If the news about United signing Maguire is true, this surely makes Martial to us less likely. Hopefully if that's the case, we move on swiftly and get Zaha signed, sealed and delivered.

Leicester says he is not for sale...

Martial is keen to move to a Southern team as he doesn't want his new born to grow up with a Manc Accent and be discriminated against for the rest of their life!

How are the two related?
It may not be, but it seems like the best chance of us getting Martial is in a deal that sees Toby go the other way. If they sign Maguire - and at this stage there's no guarantee they will - they wouldn't need Toby.

And United now look set to be forced into paying beyond their valuation for one of Alderweireld and Maguire. While they could look to offload unsettled forward and Spurs target Anthony Martial to White Hart Lane to offset some of the cost for Alderweireld, they are not keen on allowing the Frenchman to join a rival Premier League club.

'Refuse to sell to a PL rival' has been downgraded to 'not keen'.

If we get a free run at Martial, we might have a shot. Key word is if, because there's no chance we get a free run at him

Sounds like the swap could end up playing out after all if Utd can't get Maguire for an acceptable price. Just got to hope DL has the backbone to refuse to sell unless we get what we want.

If they offer enough money then I think he will sell without Martial, but I do think he'll really fight for it, and it does seem Utd's stance is waning.
