Ridiculous arguments about who Martial might displace! Big teams don’t care. Let’s have as many good players as we can and let the manager worry about that.

Competition can only help. Challenging on 4 fronts means having a squad that can cope - Pochettino might be tempted to rotate more if the players on the bench are excellent.

One of the players Pochettino is interested in signing this summer is forward Anthony Martial, who is also on Chelsea’s radar.

Tottenham’s hopes of beating Chelsea to Martial’s signature could be boosted by Manchester United’s interest in central defender Toby Alderweireld.

While there is little prospect of a straight swap involving the two players, both clubs could be more inclined to do business if they can get what they want.

Spurs want around £45m for Alderweireld, which is similar to the value that has been placed on Martial who has been left out France’s World Cup squad.

Chelsea would be prepared to pay Martial more than Tottenham, but Pochettino can promise Champions League football and point to the positive impact he has had on most of his players.

It looks like everything is falling into place for our summer transfers.

Martial not going to the World Cup
De Ligt not going to the World Cup
Rabiot not going to the World Cup
Andre Gomes not going to the World Cup
Sessegnon not going to the World Cup
Pulisic not going to the World Cup

Either we are very clever with the players we are looking to bring in....or they aren't actually that good!!!

Jordan Henderson is going to world cup! That says alot about the quality at the world cup

Iirc is Matt Law not quite accurate for Spurs news these days?
Yes, but he adds nothing to further optimism here - still deals that require a lot of work and probably concessions from both sides.

Got to say, it would be painful to see Toby in a ManUre shirt. Other than £££, I can't see why he thinks he'll be more likely to win the league there than with us.

I really agree with this. I remember watching him a few times last year, thinking what it would've been like if we had got him ahead of UTD, and in turn, what would his relationship be like with the rest of the team and Poch. Given that our recent success over the last few years is somewhat attributable to team chemistry, it sorta made me wonder if we dodged a bullet.

His body language comes across as whiny and visibly frustrated when things aren't going his way. I get the feeling that wouldn't sit well with Poch, and would rub some of our players the wrong way. But hey... maybe if we purchased him, it'd see a change in his attitude. Then again... I find that doubtful.

There was an article in which Poch said that he had to work with Vertonghen to improve his body language. If he can do it with Jan he can do it with Martial or anyone else.

“I remember his body language when I watched a game against Liverpool (March 2014) in the season before I came. He was slouched in the tunnel.

“I told him when I came: ‘Why are you like that? You are here for a battle! You cannot show this body language – you are a warrior!’ It is difficult after showing that lack of energy to go out and take part in a battle.

“Now, though, he is one of the important players in the side.”

I’m not convinced martial is quite as good as people on here think he is.
He has some raw talent no doubt but his performances for Man U today and in the recent past have been pretty poor and his body language is not great

Body language is probably because he wants out and didn’t make the WC squad. On Red Cafe people were saying they looked at their most attacking when he came on today.

He has had many opportunities to become a first team player and make the France squad that’s no excuse for poor attitude imo

It’s hard to judge, Jose doesn’t have a great track record with judging and working with young talent, KDB, Salah and now Depay seems to be the latest on the list of spurned talent. Depay is doing incredibly well for Lyon, Just scored a hat trick. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him and then Martial come back to haunt him. Martial strikes me as a player who has been managed appaulingly by Jose. One can never really tell, but he looks devoid of confidence.

This is Mourinho we’re talking about though. With players that he loves he’s amazing. With those that don’t fit his system he’s not so great. If Poch wants him he can clearly see a player he can get the best from. I’ll trust him.

Martial went through a great patch of play both scoring and assisting this season, then what did Jose do? Dropped him. I think per minute played Martial is one of United’s Most productive players. United’s problem is to many wide players for 2 positions. Rashford, Sanchéz, Lingaurd, Mata and Martial.

United want Willian so there's also a potential swap deal there.

He’d be an outstanding signing as you could use him in so many different ways.

He could play up top with Kane in a 3-5-2.

Or off the left in a 4-2-3-1or play up top of Kane’s rested / not available.

Even if we got Bale I’d still go for him as Bale can play left, in the middle or I supposed (not a massive fan of this but Poch likes inverted wingers) on the right.

Or Eriksen could play right, Bale middle and Martial left and we’d score at least 10 goals every game! ???
