The need in CM is far greater than a wide forward imo.
Not disputing it's a need but what non-HG player would you deem a more viable deal than allegedly been offered Martial?

In any case, isn't Grealish deal now back on coupled with potentially Skipp looking a viable alternative then the need is mitigated to a degree.

I'm guessing Zaha is the home grown alternative.

For some reason, I'd prefer Zaha. I accept that Martial is probably the more talented player but I think Zaha brings a lot more in terms of attitude and application. I think he would be a more positive personality in the dressing room.

I have an itchy feeling in my bones that Zaha would be better for us than Martial. I don't know why. Maybe I just don't feel that we look like we'd suit Martial (in the way we play) as much as we'd suit Zaha.

I can't help thinking that this ties in with what Hercules said about Levy playing poker to get what he wants on three fronts.

The non HG issue as an excuse is complete nonsense. So if we don't find buyers for those players they'll be registered and offer absolutely nothing the whole season. No chance there isn't a single club on the planet we couldn't loan them to. Llorente would have to know his place and only be registered for PL. Register a youth GK instead of Gazzaniga in CL. There's a load of ways around it, this HG excuse is just this years fax machine issue.

Do we have that many non-HG players compared to the likes of Liverpool, City, Chelsea etc? Half of our bloody squad makes up the England team, not including the likes of Winks and Davies. I'm on the move at the moment, but I'd love to compile a list of HG players per squad out of ourselves and our rivals. I'm sure we already have more.

I think the issue is in CL because Davies and Dier are non HG.
Even so considering Toby is going, possibly Dembele and we had Llorente, Sissoko and Gazzaniga registered I don't buy it as a reason not to buy a non HG who'd improve our squad massively at all.

How much do you think we'll get from teams outside the premier league for the players that we don't register in our squad? If we send them on loan clubs aren't going to offer to pay all of their wages. We might get half if we're lucky. The chances are that we'll probably get rid of a couple of players this week and that Levy is trying to use the HG argument to get United to pay some of Martials wages.

I love the idea that after months of saying we want him they finally break and say ok let's talk and we tell them to fuck off he'll fuck up our home grown quota!:)

The players that need sending out on loan are GKN and Janssen, they were loaned out last year. We're losing Toby. It's Llorente, Sissoko or Gazzanigga that clog it up. I'm sure if Levy said to Poch here you can have X non HG player who will massively improve your squad he'd happily have a nice chat with one or two of them and say we will only be registering them for PL and domestic cups.

We don't have to register our CL squad until after the 31 August transfer deadline so potential clubs will have no idea whether we intend to use them in the CL or not.

Still don't understand why the rules are the way they are. Dier and Davies being non home grown in the CL is mental. But them the rules...

Under EU free movement and equality laws simply doing it by nationality is illegal, so this is a workaround that still ends up being mostly about nationality but technically isn't.

Makes sense for Dier but Davies not being homegrown is crazy. Whilst Swansea may technically be in another country they play under the English FA so he should he treated as home grown
