Toby is exactly what they need and we will undoubtedly know that too.10% chance we get Martial IMO. He's exactly what we need and MUFC will undoubtedly know that.

Not sure about that. He's very similar to Son. I doubt anyone is looking at our squad and thinking we need an attacking midfielder.
JD <-> Row Z
I think he'd be a better backup striker than Son, who doesnt really hold the ball up well. He prefers to play striker so he has the right mentality for that role. He's one the few forwards I think would actually slot into the side well.
Can you help explain this logic to me. I'm in the category of a player in the mold of Modric is exactly what we need. So I'd just like to hear the other side of the argument.
Kane is the type of freak competitor though that won't be happy resting if he feels he can go. Its why he comes back early from injuries. I personally don't see that much of a different player right now from Martial & Son. I think what Son may lack in close control, which I still think is quite good, he makes up for in movement that Martial doesn't offer a ton of at the moment. Son makes great runs and is intelligent in his movement. If theres one thing ManU fans will knock Martial on is that he basically just stands there until someone passes him the ball then he will start his movement. He will need to improve that greatly if he wishes to reach his potential and takes Sons spot in the team.We do need a CM who can knit everything together like Modric did, but Martial can play wide left or striker more effectively than Son who is very inconsistent. He's a powerful runner with close control that Son doesn't have. It may sound like I'm bashing Son, but I'm not. He's a fantastic option off the bench. I also don't think it's good to have Kane playing as many minutes as he does. Without his injuries he wouldn't have had any rest at all.
I suspect any fee will be under €60 million as any fee over than Man Utd have to share 50% of it with Monaco.
Here are the details of his contract
http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ny-martial-could-cost-manchester-united-61-5m
The document says the initial fee of 50m Euros (£38.5m) for the player is to be paid in two instalments - €20m (£15.4m) within three days of his transfer, and €30m (£23.1m) on July 1.
There are then three further potential payments - €10m (£7.7m) if the player scores 25 first-team goals for Manchester United, €10m (£7.7m) if Martial makes 25 appearances for the French national team and €10m (£7.7m) more if the player is ever nominated for the Ballon d'Or award.
There is also a sell-on clause inserted in the deal, with Monaco due to be paid 50 per cent of any transfer fee between €60m and €100m United receive for the player.
FYI hes scored 24 goals for Man Utd and has 18 caps for France so in that respect if he's not a first choice player and wants to leave then Man Utd would probably be keen to sell him. 1 more goal costs the £7.7 million!
Ok, even if that is true, why would that mean that the fee would be under £60M? All it means is that Yanited only get 50% if the fee above £60M. They still get more money if they sell him for £80M than if they sell him for £60M.I suspect any fee will be under €60 million as any fee over than Man Utd have to share 50% of it with Monaco.

But Martial pretty much only plays off the left his entire ManU career its why they brought in Zlatan and Lukaku. Sure he could fill in there but he's best in Sons spot and to me Son is really damn good and one of the better wingers in the league. This has to mean to me that we're going 4-3-3. Son, Martial, Kane, Lucas and Lamela for the front 3 spots. Thats an incredible group for those spots. I personally have questions about Dele in a more reserved role so will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Excellent point, I would say this is the best reason I’ve seen thus far for bringing in Martial. He could be the difference between winning or drawing some of the matches against clubs that park the bus/we struggle to break down. Also excited about the Kovacic link, potentially looks like a good deal.Whilst I do think we need more in midfield (excited by the Kovacic link), I think there is an argument that we still need another top quality attacker. Sometimes I feel like if we start Son and he isn't firing, we have no attacking quality left to lift a game. Now if you get a Martial (who at 22 can still become a world class player) you suddenly have a top quality player to bring on every game and scare tired defences. Now we may already have that player in Lucas, but we haven't seen enough to prove that either way. Plus having two dynamic gamechangers can't hurt!
The big teams in the PL are overloaded with goalscoring attackers, this is becuase when one's form drops these extra players can come up with the goods in key moments, whereas we currently just persevere with players until they play through their poor form.
When you consider the option of using Eriksen in a deeper playmaking role (which he seems to gravitate towards these days anyway) and possibly Dele as a box to box option next season suddenly another place appears in the squad.
Just my 2 pennies/cents...

Didn't son get 7 goals in the 4 games kane was out last season?
Not against getting martial but i do think son can cover.
We aren’t putting this much effort and money into a player whose primary role is to play backup to Kane.I'm pretty sure one of the reasons Martial is miffed at united is because of how he's been used (and not used), so probably better to look at how he played for Monaco.
He can, but I'm going off the basis of Martial mainly replacing Llorente and Janssen
The question of Son Vs Martial is an interesting one, and does maybe raise the question of do we need Martial if he is going to cost 70 odd mil, is he that much better, maybe he will be. I'm not sure where I really sit on the Martial front, I guess for me he feels like a luxury buy when we don't have a CM. I don't particularly rate Gomes and would rather invest more money on a quality CM then Martial. Hypothetically, if it was a choice between Martial or Kovacic, I would choose Kovacic in a second. But that's just my opinion.Kane is the type of freak competitor though that won't be happy resting if he feels he can go. Its why he comes back early from injuries.
