I don't see that it would. The station is practically deserted outside rush-hour, and it's pretty quiet then compared to WHL and Bruce Grove. TFL will argue that the existing rail service is a more than adequate link to Tottenham Hale and the Victoria Line, and that a Victoria Line spur would only see serious usage maybe thirty times a year, and that just for a few hours. There are various pressure groups banging on about this, but you are always going to run into that objection.

There used to be a link to a PDF which covered all the pros and cons in great detail, but it seems to have gone. I actually downloaded a copy, but it's far too long to post.

they'res also a fuckload of room around old trafford..

whl is on a very small site

OT doesn't have shit loads of room. In fact, there is a railway line behind the smallest stand thus hampering ManYoo to increase OT to over 90,000.

There are other factors to consider :

I would develop WHL bit by bit- we have the land behind the West Stand - do away with the upper tier and build a huge arching tier that forms into the away support and paxton road end - i would then re-develop the east stand upper section and have two tiers ( like Man Utds east stand )

A capacity of 50,000 plus would suit us fine. Big is not always best, WHL has a great atmosphere and i would not like to see us in bowl indentkit stadium that looks completely emotionless with no sense of history and identity.

Hi Jinx :) (look I give everyone a bonus joke as well a post

Agree so much with your post and have highlighted couple of many good points -

From memory we had permission to expand the East Stand years ago - but chose not to - cos we were worried if 'football's boom' would last

I've always favoured the piecemeal approach and stay at the Lane - but have also seen the attractions of a 'brave new world' approach and go for a great new stadium

for me the key has always been 'no temporary ground share' - hate the idea

a 50,000 Lane is fine by me if that's what the club can best afford and won't necessitate losing views or atmosphere

that kind of regularly filled capacity plus success on the pitch will get us into the 'top 10 'rich list' no danger with the bonanza Prem TV deal thrown in

Yes, and there is also the canal directly to the north. But to the west there is an enormous area which could potentially be used for further ground expansion.

Further ground expansion? They want to bring OT to 90,000 meaning they want to mirror the main stand with the smaller stand.

I've read that they are considering paying for the railway track to be moved a few feet to the left.

Could they not build around it?

Doesn't the Nou Camp or Bernabeau (sic) have a motorway running through one of the stands?

Something like the 'New Anfield' would be nice (see below), with 55,000 to 60,000 required. Although I don't mind a bowel design either. As long as the atmosphere is kept electric and the fans are close and tight to the pitch, that would be fine by me.

I think it's an old design and not the one there actually running with but imho...it looks better

Booooring generi-stadium!!

correct me if you def no i am wrong but didnt haringey council agree the sale of st pauls school and grounds in worcester ave on the understanding that the purchasers would bear costs of relocation and new build of school, wasnt there a bit of a storm going on with the school governers in local press because "re developers were not named" - know it was before xmas

suppose re developers could be the club, they dont have to declare any purchase of land etc untill planning stage ?

Old fashioned is good

Close to the pitch & proper atmosphere

Modern stadiums usually tend to have SHIT atmospheres. However if you look at the 2nd link I posted, thats the allianz arena. 66,000 capacity & close to the pitch. Looks perfect to me.

Anyone just seen the Ar5e get a right slating on BBC Inside Out.

As I said earlier they let their community down with their promises. Shifting blame onto others; Council , London Transport etc.

But dont worry they have invested in affordable housing.
£500K for a 1-bed flat in the redevlopment of highbury.
It's affordable if you have £500K I suppose.

Read Broken Promises

This is not about Ar5e-bashing its about Spurs being very careful about what what is promised in order to get a new stadium built in or near WHL.

I had the pleasure of travelling from Leeds to Kings X this week:grin:

I had an even bigger smile when on entering islington i looked to my left at the library being dismantled and sold to the deluded and rich fools as luxury flats.

Then we went past ashburton, its new, its big, its shiny and its got the woolwich logo on it and despite of all that is smacks of corporate hospitaility and brand awareness for a certain airline.

Please never let THFC sell out like this, i accept sponsorship and the rewards are massive but their must be more to our game than selling your very heart and soul for income.

Lets remember we have played on the site of WHL for over a hundred years and we have always been North London, our neighbours who advertise the airline have no sense of history, they are south east london in origin and even created leyton orient as clapton were forced to move when dial square came knocking.
