I just screamed "YES!" when he won the penalty, and then punched the floor and subsequently hurt my hand when it was pushed onto the post and away.

You see I always think Keane will miss - no confidence on him. Defoe I thought would score. But cant believe we won't let Burbs have it.... he would have buried it in the bottom corner.

Oh yeah got to agree he has the balls..... not sure if he would have taken it in front of their fans though

I just screamed "YES!" when he won the penalty, and then punched the floor and subsequently hurt my hand when it was pushed onto the post and away.

My Dad jumped up, repeatedly shouting "YES!" and punching the air... I knew straight away Defoe would be taking it, so just sunk in my seat, putting my head in my hands. I absolutely knew he was going to miss.

To be fair, I was pretty sure Mido would miss vs Pompy (to put us 2-1 up, Defoe adding a 3rd in the 90th minute). I was wrong that time.

But yeah, needless to say I was pretty confident he wasn't going to score. What's more is that I knew exactly what way he going to go (as did Green - Defoe went the same way last season vs West Ham, vs Green). Defoe has gone to the left of the keeper his last 3 penalties. Not 1 of them has been a good penalty in my books.

Ho hum. What's done is done, eh?

To be fair it was a pressure penalty for whoever took it (Defoe has shown in the past that he is caable of scoring against west hame at upton park....had done so in last two visits, so he may not have felt the pressure anymore then anyone else.)

We as a team are struggling in terms of league postion and getting wins, whoever took the penalty was facing a hostlie crowd with basically the last kick of the game to win 2extra points which were vital to us as a club low down the league with high ambitions.

I do think we may have been better served giving the ball to someone in better goal scoring form and higher confidence then Defoe. Our problem was that only KEane is in good goalscoring form and he wasnt on the pitch.

Other then that Jenas has a goal scoring run of one game and Bent had scored two in two before hand. But neither has taken a penalty for us before (as with Berbatov) so Defoe was probaly as good a shout as anyone to take it (especially as he won it and wanted it)

Just a shame he repeated his penalty of last year and never hit it clean enough or in the corner

I was behind the goal at Upton PK.

The guy next to me said "It's alright Defoe scored 1 here last season", Yeah but it wasn't to win the game in the last seconds", I replied.

We can all be smart asses after the event I guess but I had a very bad feeling about the penalty without Keano to take it.

That's how you take a pressure penalty, away to your local neighbours, with the score at 1-1

In all seriousness, it did take balls from Defoe to want to take it, so fair play to the lad. But I wish he'd aim his penalties into higher. It makes them almost impossible to save. Shearer was no penalty king - he did miss a few, 1 of which I remember being against Sunderland! But if you hit it high, into the corner, you're going to score more often than not.

Yeah love the way players like Southgate, Butt etc grab the ball with confidence, stepping up manfully to take the spot kick.....

Its just that Berby took penalties for Leverkusen , we saw a few on a film clip . Very cool and clinical .

The idea that Berby would have been fazed by this penalty is laughable , we have the coolest head in the prem ,a natural for penalties .

Assert yourself Berby

I've just remembered why I hate Spurs Chat so much.

*hobbles back to the safety of the Chat forum*

well if you can't stand the heat!!....

Go on back to the general chat you go... the Spurs Community version of a blowing alley with the barriers up over the gutters.

I would have made Berbatov take it. The immidiate success of Spurs hinges more on Berbatov than on Defoe and getting him on the score sheet is more important to the cause. On a more cynical level it woud have also tested his committment to us and if he had scored but still ended up going, another mark in the goals collum wouldn't harm his valuation.

Did any of our players go up to Defoe to try and get the ball or to say they want the penalty? dont think they showed it on tv, or i missed it.
