there has been various suggestions of this topic in various threads.. thought it will be good if all discussions of such can be consolidated here.. did a search for similar threads but those were outdated with AVB still in charged.. (yeah suddenly AVB's name got mentioned alot these two days..)
mainly this is not entirely on what position of a player we need to invest on in transfer windows.. but rather it is more of a certain attributes of a player or team we need to have a proficiency on.. and thus the discussion goes even wider in range, i.e abilities, tactics, mindsets, training methods etc, than hoping to acquiring a certain player and wish he can do a job..
below are my thoughts, and a few actually got mentioned by some in different threads:
Pace - we severely lacked this.. Bale, Lennon, Townsend.. our speed demons are all gone.. just looked at how Townsend almost skinned Davies alive made me wonder if we made a mistake in selling him.. he was possibly our last pacy players.. Yedlin was loaned out.. Walker seems to be slower than before to me.. not sure if we have any emphasis on speed in our training, but I hardly see the results in games.. Sissoko tore us apart last night with the speedy counter..nevermind we played with 3 at the back, but at least our acceleration needs to be up there.. Davies almost lost out to another barcode player while running his life out to pass the ball back to Lloris even though he was a yard or two in front first.. without pace, there is no way we can carry out counter effectively.. Njie could be a wild card for next season.. if not, an addition with pace is very important IMO..
Power - if we combine the above and power, we have Sissoko, or Bolasie, some quick names that sprung to mind.. Lennon may be quicker, but if player like Bolasie can reach out a foot and muscle back the ball, that is added point.. we have power in Dembele in shielding, in a certain Toby, Wimmer in defending, Kane in holding up and shooting.. I would have hope we can toughen up certain players, especially in the midfield to add this attribute to their abilities.. we can be tough and stood up to challengers and lunges and taunts from chelscum kinda low-class players.. Mason stood up.. but he has no power.. he got robbed of the ball easily.. he has no explosive bursts when needed in counter..
Leadership - need I say, the current players have none IMO.. they mainly only seem to moan when passes were not made to them when they were in a better scoring positions.. we greatly lacked players leading over the other in times of need.. when the going gets tough, like against WBA, Southhampton, there needs to have a figure in the field to hold the team mentality back to winning ways.. we were slightly better this season, until after the chelscum games.. even at times of failure, a leader gotta understand the next objective and bring the rest to meet that.. I am not sure if this area could be trained, for I personally think part of it is in-born.. frankly I am not a fan of Lloris or Verts being the captain.. Kane and Toby possibly yes.. if not, we need an experienced player who had seriously won some big shit in the team who understand he may not be a first XI always, but still commanded respect from the lads when called upon in the field..
Crossings, deliveries - technically good we may be, but crossings we sux.. all players should have this ability honed for next season.. our fullbacks were good, but not great.. Walker fluffed it too often under pressure though.. and corner takers, whoever have the balls not cleared beyond the first man and/or gathered by the keeper should be fined wages.. we need to make every deadball situation counts.. while we scored a couples from corners this season, I believe we can contribute more if deliveries were much better..
Dribbling - one-twos are becoming more common, but if certain players can dribble past opponents and open up the spaces, we have very gifted players to run into.. we need confident players to do take-ons and confident means they need to be supported by fans.. I think frustrations translated down from fans when certain players could not dribble past opponents will prevent them to dribble anymore..Lamela, Son, Njie to name a few, seemed to dribble less as the season goes..
RB - I am not sure if Yedlin will be in our team next year.. but I see Trippier and him will be moved on.. I wish to see Trippier developed, but I guess his pace is losing the spot to Walker.. I have no names in mind, but I wish a quality RB really can come and have Walker earned the spot by his own merit..
a break for now.. let's keep this going
