I think there's plenty to play with in our squad and we shouldn't be desperate to buy. No need to buy just for the sake of buying.

I don't think we're particularly desperate for any certain position, hopefully if we do spend it'll be on someone who'll be expected to be a big step up on what we already have. Diarra or Arshavin are the two obvious and I'd love to have either one of them.

there's a theory that Arshavin is already done and this reference to not much money really means not that much money because we've signed arshavin.

Free's?!?! Will Owen and Butt and Heskey be Free's in January?

I dunno though, none of arshavin's recent quotes would suggest that any deal is done. If it was all done, he'd probably just not comment and continue playing for Zenit quietly.

I cannot believe that Clubs are not aware of his qualities. It suprises me.....

Surely he could have been in for him already as he hasn't I doubt he will.

I think the reason he hasn't signed for anyone is because he counts as a non EU player. I'm sure he'd have had plenty of offers, but is probably waiting for a more attractive club to make room for him, which will mean off loading a non EU player and this can't happen until Jan.

I didn't know there was a limit, how many non EU can we have?

I'll wait for someone more knowedgable to answer that, although my suspicion is that we can't play more than three non-EU players in any domestic matches.

However, Gomes & Modric definitely needed work permits. I would assume Corluka also needed one as a Croatian, and surely Pav needs one.

Which makes four. Can anyone throw light on this?

PS I'm pretty sure Gio has triple nationality: Mexican, Brazilian, and Spanish because of his many years in Barca's academy. Whilst I believe Gilberto has German second nationality.

If he was that good he would have been snapped up by now. Either that or he has a terrible attitude. Anyway we have huddlestone, and zokora.

That's the genius of Harry Redknapp. No other sod sees them until he's signed a gem of a player.

I'm afraid this is a bit of a myth. When you sign as many players as Redknapp has over the years there's bound to be a few gems. But there's at least 10 duds for each of those.

Marco Boogers anyone?

IF we are to get better we NEED to get a player of the quality of Arshavin, at worst? That illusive DM should also be a priority now. That being completed we will FINALLY resemble a CL chasing squad? Getting beyond the Top 4 is a BIG task but one that is not impossible? My fear is that 'Arry can get a team to 5th but...higher....maybe not? Time will tell? lol COYS!

Isn't Bingy the most hilarious poster? I love reading a Bingy post? Sentence? Another sentence? Another sentence with random punctuation?

What was this thread about, again?

We're one of the few countries where there are no restrictions on who can play. The only qualification rules in the English league pertain to work permits.

Essentially this means that an English team can field any number of EU players (or players holding an EU passport) who do not need a work permit and any number of non-EU players who have gained a work permit, the qualification rules for which are:
  • Appearing in at least 75% of international games over the last two years
  • The player to come from a country in the top 70 of the FIFA rankings

The reason teams haven't come in for Appiah yet has little to do with his ability or attitude etc actually. He's been in dispute with Fenerbache since the summer. Its not too disimilar to the situation with Albelda which rambled on for quiete some time. Both were looking for a release from their respective Clubs, which would allow them to join another Club on a free. So no other team has been able to sign him as of yet. Now that the situation has been solved and he can join any other Club on a free, i'm sure theres several Clubs in talks with him.

I just dont think we need another central attacking midfielder.

Indeed it would. However, I'm still not happy with having a right footer on the left. As good as Arshavin is, its gonna have to be a lefty for me I'm afraid.
