I know there is a thread going about negative fans, I thought this was slightly different in nature but if the mods want to merge then no problem. But yeah, over the last 48 hours I have been embarrassed, ashamed, and even disgusted by some of our fans (whether here on SC or elsewhere).

Firstly I've had to read multiple comments and threads absolutely slating some of our players, the very same players who put the shirt on week in/week out for you the fans. Of course booing happens at the games and scapegoats are sought out after losses...but after only 3 league games? Really? And with new players to the team and league> Players like Chadli and Soldado, closely followed by Rose, Walker, Dembele, Siggy. I just find it really sad and disappointing. As fans, surely our job is to get behind the team (especially the new players) and help push them on? And all this in the wake of the Arsenal match where we performed better than the previous 2 years, with a brand new team. Poor showing from some fans.

Transfers. This is where the anger really started setting in. Really there has been some ridiculous comments about our transfer. People saying it just wasn't good enough, saying they wanted Levy to do more! I'm lucky that I am old enough to have seen some truly magnificent players come and go at the Lane, but never in my lifetime have I seen a window where we strengthened so much at one time. We have internationals in abundance, we have future stars in the making, we have depth and quality. But no, just not good enough for some people. Some people wanted real world class talent without a second's thought that we can't attract such players because we aren't actually Barcelona in disguise. And by saying that the window isn't good enough and we need more does that, in essence, damn the current squad right from the start?? And a lot of this nonsense because a German lad moved in across the road.

Ozil. This is where I truly started to lose it. Yesterday I could have been forgiven for thinking I had accidentally logged on to an Arsenal forum, so rife were the posts about Ozil. Yes Arsenal signed a world class player...so what! Maybe I'm old fashioned but I believe in concentrating in my own team rather than worrying about others. If we perform to our ability, win matches and points, then it shouldn't really matter who the other teams bought. We only have to play them again once in the league, on our turf no less. What Oil does against other teams is of no concern to me as long as we pick up 3 points as well. Should Arsenal finish 2nd and we finish 3rd then, again, I really couldn't care. For me it is all about Spurs and nobody else except our opponents during a match. But suppose we play the game of studying them anyway...I see an a team who have bought a world class player for a position where one wasn't needed. Cazorla created more goal scoring chances last season than Ozil. Yet they are still incredibly thin, will still have a very weak bench, and still have the same weaknesses as before. Sure Ozil will help them but they would have been better off buying three cheaper players for the right position. Anyway, my point is what they do is unimportant, what we do is. Perhaps some fans need to focus more on their own team instead of coming off with suicidal comments about who Arsenal have bought.

I remember a thread on here asking why other team's fans seemed to hate us so much. Currently we have threads laughing at certain teams. It may come as no surprise that they, also, have threads laughing at Tottenham and, from what I have seen over the past couple of days, they have been given plenty of ammunition. We are Spurs fans, surely we are better than that? Perhaps we should all be thankful that we aren't United fans this morning!! So put away your gripes about who others bought, about what positions we didn't strengthen, etc. because we have assembled a remarkable young squad and the best I remember in many, many years. Get behind that team, support them without compromise, and dream because To Dare is To Do COYS!

I wouldn't read too much into it mate. The one's that make the threads slating our players:

a) After ratings and attention
b) No real knowledge of football

We have an immense squad, every player in our team is absolute quality.

Soldado Defoe Adebayor

We have never had a stronger 25 man squad than this in our history. There is plenty of creativity, pace, strength, evergy, dynamism, solidity and intelligence in that 25 man squad. It is now down to AVB to use it correctly. Anybody who isn't happy with this collection of players is nuts. Of course there are a couple of improvements that could be made at some point. I personally prefer Ekotto to Rose. The manager clearly disagrees. However, the ability and depth here is amazing so please people, think before you speak. And as for Levy, he has just assembled this squad and kept us in the black, he should be admired for that, not criticised. We've lost our best goalscorer so he has signed a plethora of great goalscorers in midfield and attack. The other players we've lost, Caulker, Huddlestone, Parker, Dempsey, have all been improved upon dramatically. It may well take a bit of time to settle but the ingredients are there for us to play good football, win most games, and never have our rhythm affected by injuries, suspensions and loss of form.

I think too many people on here think that running a club is the same as playing a football related computer game. I've never played one personally, but it appears that many expect players to perform straight off the bat when they join (conveniently forgetting the early Bale days), and then get after them when the understanding and interplay is limited. Others are inconsolable that we have lost Bale without acknowledging the overall strengthening that his sale has instigated. I also do not care what Arsenal or anybody else has done with their money - it's up to us to set out to succeed whoever we come up against.

Personally, I'm proud to be associated with a club that has managed to perform admirably amongst others where money, morals or massive debt are no object. We still operate in the real world and have managed to spend over 100m in one transfer window. We are in good hands and I feel that with the Stadium, Management and recent investment, Daniel levy has now pushed the button on 'Project Spurs'.

Great original post.

Concentrating on our own team, did we get Ince? And if yes, how good is he?

THIS x1,000

The way people were posting, it was like we had to play them every week. We've played them once, early in the season, and lost in a close game. Suddenly, its all doom and gloom again; suddenly its 'we're gonna finish 5th or worse', etc.

Jeez, I have been watching Spurs since mid-1970's and I have watched many great players leave us (like Bale did this window), have watched great players come to us, and have watched a huge, and I mean HUGE!, amount of dross. If you told me, 5-10years ago, that we would be regularly fighting for top 4, I'd have had you locked up. That doesnt mean that I am accepting of where we are and are happy to settle - I want us to push on - but I also remember where we've come from. Some people seem to have forgotten.

Great post. How people can still be annoyed by our transfer business this summer is beyond me.

In the Europa, if we "rest" some key players, the team we could still put out, is still stronger than our first team last year.

That is amazing!

Nail on the head. Many posters on here have gone on about how it's a new squad and that the team must be allowed to gel. A narrow loss at the Emirates, and suddenly everything is wrong.
It's knee jerk moronia of the fifth degree.

Some of these posters had signed up yesterday or Sunday, can't even be sure they are actually Spurs fans. I tend to ignore them, if everyone did they would probably disapear as quickly as they appeared.

I fancy us for a cup this season!

A lot of the negativity about transfers and our new players comes from people who just don't watch football outside of what sky shows and MotD (or judging by some of the comments they probably watch handball and get a bit confused).

Anyone who watches the Eredivisie can tell you that Eriksen and Chadli are fantastic players. Erksen is the absolute daddy at set pieces and has the sort of VDV/Modric vision and a boat load of skill meaning he is extremely creative. Chadli is a real solid winger who isn't rapid but can cross, cut in and shoot and generally provide a lot of intelligent play.

Those who have watched Roma a few times can tell you what an outstanding prospect Lamela is. Seriously the guy is unreal, he has a turn of pace, a great shot, the ability to dribble past players and he can cross too.

Soldado has only been outscored by Messi and Ronaldo in La Liga over the last 3 seasons. Think about that.

Paulinho keeps some seriously good players out of the Brazil side and if wasn't for some dazzling performances by the enigmatic Neymar in the Confed cup, people would be raving about him as he f**king bossed it for Brazil.

This sort of discussion can continue for all of our new signings who are all internationals that have been outstanding over the last couple of years.

However a lack of football knowledge leads to that crap we have been forced to read where those who know little to nothing decide that they should be extremely vocal with their opinion.

Then the Ozil's move to Arsenal sent those people into overdrive, as they had heard his name, seen him in the CL or on Sky occasionally.

Great article and comments below it, they sum up my thoughts as well. I'm thrilled with the work that AVB, Baldini and Levy have done this summer. In fact I think it shows how much we have developed as a club when we arent leaving it to the last minute to sign a player. The press make way too much of the final day deadline, I'd rather look at the whole window and see spurs getting business done early every year.

We have a fantastic squad now, the best I have ever seen. I havent seen enough of Lamela to pass any comment, I trust the views from Italian experts in the press when they say he is a great player. I think Eriksen will be immense for us, if it hadnt been for him entering the last year of his contract I am sure he would've cost at least twice what we paid.

Like many people on here, I think one of our weaknesses is at left back; Rose was caught out too often by Walcott's pace on sunday and I'm not sure he is disciplined enough to defend. However, lets not forget Fryers is highly rated and Fergie didnt want to lose him, so we may have a long term solution who just needs more time before he is ready. I'm also a big fan of Benny but the fact that he is now moving to the championship and no other Top 4 team wanted him (united were looking for a left back werent they?) suggests that perhaps we have moved on and expect more than benny can offer. The best way to tell if we have progressed as a club is whether any other Top 4 team would want our starters, obviously not a single Top 20 team wanted Benny so sadly perhaps we need to move onwards and upwards.

As for Arsenal, I've always thought they have a good team, you cant keep getting into the CL every year without having a good team, so I wasnt suprised by sundays result. However, the way we controlled possession and forced them to change tactics with their substitutions in the 2nd half shows how far we have come as a team. If it hadnt been for a momentary lapse in concentration by our defenders I dont think they would've scored and the 2nd half would've been more open which would've suited us. The fact that Wenger tried and failed to sign a striker suggests he knows he needs more depth to his squad, so that's another positive for us.

In all my years of supporting spurs I never expected us to spend over 20m on one player, to do it twice in one summer is amazing. We dont have Champions League and our stadium isnt big enough, it just proves how good our management team!
