I have to agree with OP.

Tried to narrow the game too much and dembele was ineffective on the wing. When he came instead he ripped them apart!

We missed Lennon a LOT yesterday

AVB did not get anything wrong. Walker and Defoe both made massive errors to let Liverpool back in the game. We controlled the majority of the match, have you not seen the stats?!

WE HAVE NO DIVINE RIGHT TO WIN EVERY MATCH FFS!!

Apart from the first ten minutes Liverpool weren't even in game....AVB got it absolutely right, and it was individual mistakes that cost us ,infact double mistakes,a very rare occurrence ,so to happen twice in a game is just bloody unlucky.
However I cannot fathom how some people think our formation was was wrong or that AVB is somehow to blame for not making the right subs at the right time....if one/two/three of our players decide to do something bloody stupid, there's not a lot the manager can do about it.
Although it'll give the deluded bin dippers something to cling to,this was a FREAK result,we played them off the park for eighty odd minutes.Jolly Rodgers didnt have a clue, and somehow he thinks bringing on joe Allen was the key to their success....complete crap.
Considering our defence, especially recently ,has been superb....we ve got to take this one at face value....a complete freak result.
Maybe this has come at the right time ,when complacency seems to be creeping in as though champions league football is already in the bag.
Could be the reminder we needed.

Here's another one for you to doh. AVB has been fantastic.

But today with the absence of Lennon, I think Bale should have played LW and Holtby or Sigurdsson behind Defoe. We suffered from a lack of width and penetration today.

I agree, we badly missed Lennon and it was plain to see if we move the ball about quicker and had the pace we had from the inter game we would have torn them a new one.

We were slow in the build up which made is easier for them to break down, plus we didn't have any width everything was going through the middle which made their job even easier.

Spurs against inter 100mph, spurs against pool 40-50 mph.

Just a bad day at the office

2-1 up in complete control, hit the post, should have made it 3-1, Defoe failing to pass to let Siggy in, what game were you watching?

Yes we lacked width but we are a team set up to play through the middle which we successfully did.

That game showed us we are not just a side hoping to hang on to 4th but that we are a top side.

At 2-1 we looked so comfy and in control, Liverpool's heads had dropped and we were surging forward and looking very very dangerous...then out of nowhere Kyle decides that a backpass from the halfway line was the only answer to relieving us of possession and i realise our speedy goalkeeper had a brainfart too , even then i always thought we would go on to win..but then Defoe decided the only way to alleviate pressure was to punt it back into the penalty area.
Nothing to see here but bad individual mistakes.

Personally I think he should instead of playing Livermore he should have played Walker at right midfield and Naughton at right back. Would have given us some width which I do think we missed yesterday as we're very narrow at times plaing four central midfielders.

What and watch Walker continuely be dispossessed when we found ourselves in good attacking positions?

Just because Walker can run fast does not mean he would be a good winger!!!!!

Players make mistakes and i wont slaughter them for that, especially the way they have been performing, but, yes there is a but, Benny's persona is starting to really piss me off, even at kick off he had me seething as he made himself look like a right **** by being the only player to be standing in the team huddle, and was anyone suprised he would be the player to barge into Suarez like he did without even a flicker of remorse on his face, his whole 'whatever' attitude is getting boring, i really think he needs replacing this summer.
he doesn't need replacing. he needs competition. the only reason he behaves as he does is because he knows that we don't have anyone else who can do his job like he does. we need fryers to come through and rose to come back. or if not rose then alvaro perreira would be a good option. anything to bring his ever inflating head back to earth

We most certainly were, why can't you be in control of a match at 2-1?? You can be in control of a match at 0-0. Or do you have to be 5 up in your opinion, to be in control??

clearly youve never played football

So to be in control of a match, how many goals to the good do you have to be??

Tell you what smart arse start a poll asking people if they thought we were in control at 2-1 and see just what a tit you make of yourself.

Please.

Shit the bed why is this even relevant?

You can control a game and lose 2-0, we were in relative comfort at 2-1 until Walker made the decision to play Downing through on goal which on the face it doesn't seem such a bad choice, but his finish was so terrible that it fluked through Verthongen's legs, but on the ebb and flow of the game at that point we were very much controlling proceedings.

Disagree! If it was Harry picking the team he would have played Holtby in Lennon's position and then we would would have been too offensive! Like he did many times at the back end of last season..... I feel that it is one of AVB's strengths he looks at the opposition and picks the team based on their strengths, I feel Harry very rarely did that he just picks a home team and an away team....

I think he picked the best team based on what he had at his disposal. Just unlucky two silly errors cost us the game.
