He doesn't say that the club promised him anyone. He says that they set him the challenge of improving theor position (we had finished fourth). Then Modric left, which made that more challenging. It was at that point he identified a list of tragets who would have cost several fortunes and shattered our wage structure, and who for the most part were not interested in joining us...
He says 'promises were not kept, It was a group of players chosen by me and I felt we should come out in agreement.'

That being the case, appointing him as manager in the first place must rank as gross negligence :D

I cannot believe that they wouldn't have discussed signings and other stuff before he was offered the job.

I agree that it turned out to be a very bad appointment and it doesn't reflect well on the man who made it.

Things work both ways though in terms of dishonesty, we've had it said before that AVB is a bullshitter and a master of 'charming someone at the interview'... Lets just take the evidence with us, on his appointment we got the reasons why, one of them being the club and, then him, speaking about how they were looking forward to developing the young players at the club, the academy etc etc. What we got was a manager about as reluctant to give opportunities as you can get. So what's that about false promise, Andre...

in my opinion, AVB made three idiotic decisions.

1 - he allowed van der Vaart to leave. yes, we got good money, but had AVB categorically said he wanted him, he'd have stayed.
2 - he let BAE go on loan WITHOUT signing a replacement. as soon as Rose got injured, we were left with Naughton at LB.
3 - he ostracised our highest earner Adebayor when we couldn't score a goal for love nor money.

i think it was the last decision that really ended things. i think Levy wanted him to involve Adebayor with the first team more and AVB refused. because of that disagreement, it was agreed we should part company.

had AVB been a little bit more conciliatory and involved Adebayor, he'd still be in charge now. i am convinced of it. plus, had Eriksen not been injured for most of the time he was with us under AVB, i'm sure we'd have got better results.

VdV left to try and save his marriage didn't he? Not sure AVB asking him to stay would have been enough.

He handled Ade badly as I believe the whole incident escalated over the refusal of Ade to remove his beanie hat, but I guess AVB had to show he was the boss and wouldn't be walked over. Just one of those things I guess, and one of the major issues with modern day footballers that wield the power over the manager rather than the other way around.

AVB left, because Levy promised him the world and failed to deliver.

Well, we got rid of one bullshitter, it seems the other one is building a safe room to keep him from the baying mob. Hopefully it'll all start to work out for the best at last. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully the 'Levy sacked him' brigade will take note.

I doubt it, but hey.

I'm glad Levy did a Levy over Leandro tbh. £20m+ on him, what a disaster that would've been.

I fail to believe that he was promised the 10 or so £15/20/25m players that were by all accounts on his list that he wanted to bring in. @SpurSince57 help me out and produce that list one more time would you please, just so we can go through the absurdity of it.

Dembele instead of Moutinho he has reason to be aggrieved (though at the time it wasn't quite sure whether the player himself was that bothered about coming, we had to really work on him...) but the rest of his 'wants' were delusional.

Not completely picky we nearly got Oscar and Willian (and Mata & Courtois) until the Chels came in.

I know he hasn't mentioned Hulk and others that were unrealistic but if I'd ended up with the likes of Dempsey, Sig and Dembele replacing Mod and VDV I'd be properly fucked off. Actually I was properly fucked off when it happened.

I think his big failure was in personality and people management whether it be the players, staff, board, fans or media.

Curiously, are we to believe that AVB wasn't told about what he could realistically expect in terms of signings and budgets etc when we took him on? Either he was told a load of bollocks or he was told the truth but chose to ignore it, or it wasn't communicated very clearly to him by the board.

Which do you reckon is closest to the truth? Genuine question because I honestly don't know.

You don't think Soldado has been a disaster?

You think Lamela is better than Willian?

You think Dembele or Paulinho is better than Moutinho?

Whatever you think the point is not getting any of the players the Head coach wants which in turn undermines him.

Or Moutinho.

For dicking about even though we supposedly agreed a fee with Porto late on transfer deadline day.

If he had started the process earlier (knowing full well it would be a long, drawn out affair due to 3rd party bollocks) then we could have got it over the line, me thinks

As I understand it we alerted Chelsea by announcing he was doing a medical, so that should have been kept quiet.

Ok. And that's all down to Levy is it?

Who's to say Chelsea wouldn't have hijacked a deal if we went for him in Jan?

How is Levy at fault for Willian?

Didn't Mourinho come and criticise Levy for the way he handled the Willian deal and thats why the Chavs managed to get their grubby hands on him.

I remember us being a bit of a laughing stock?

If the wants truly were delusional, then why did he get the job? I refuse to believe targets aren't the kind of thing you discuss beforehand.

It's the consistent story with Levy. It's why Redknapp didn't get Cahill or a striker in 2011. It's why AVB didn't get Moutinho. It's why Pochettino didn't get Schneiderlin or Musacchio. It's always someone else's fault.

Hell, you heard the Paulinho interview. "I'm excited to play alongside Bale". Levy lies for a living, I don't find it hard to believe at all that he told Andre he'd be getting players before performing another heel face turn.

Fucked if I can remember, at my age I don't even know if I was out last night.

That would explain how your wife has conned you into believing that "delicious, peanutty, hot drink" is from Tesco's... absolutely noone but you will understand this comment :(.
