Of course they were vital, but they weren't individual moments of brilliance (not all of them anyway), like the majority of Bale's were.

I think that's the point he was making, and I would add that yes, RV's goals were vital, but if he wasn't there they would have had Rooney or Chicharito in the same positions, they may have scored 80%. Nobody could have replicated what Bale did for us, I don't think we're commending it enough, the amount of free-kicks and 25-30 yarders was bordering on ridiculous.

Oh yeah!!!

Just as Van Persie can be thanked for United not finishing below us? Or Suarez can be thanked for Liverpoo not finishing below Villa? Or Benteke can be thanked for Aston Villa not finishing below QPR? Or how Messi can be thanked for Barcelona not finishing below Real Madrid? Or how Ronaldo can be thanked for Real Madrid not finishing outside of the CL places etc etc etc.

Mate, almost every club has that one player who scores the lions share of goals. I feel you're doing AVB a great disservice, personally.

Remember the context of the thread... We are discussing who is more valuable to us Bale or AvB. My belief is Bale was much more responsible for our league finish and points total than AvB, hence thank Bale for finishing clear of the scousers (like thanking Gazza for the 91 fa cup). This isnt an attack on AvB, you dont need to protect his honour, I rate him - but not as much as Bale.

Bales contribution to Spurs went way beyond expectation, Van Persie was bought to do what he did for Utd - Messi continued what he has been doing for years. Bale wasn't tasked with scoring outrageous winning goals very other week and carrying the goalscoring burden of the side but thats what he did.

Im a little surprised by the AvB canonisation in all honesty, I thought he performed quite well, nothing earth shaking but signs are there that he can push us forward given time. We did crash and burn in the cups and finished behind more clubs than last season afterall...and would have been much further off not for Bale stepping up to the plate. I have always expected this upcoming season to be the real indicator of his abilities and think he could just deliver.

So. to be clear its 'Bale is best' for me in this hypothetical 'who is more important' debate. (and of your examples only Messi/Guardiola is relevant in this context and I think it went with the player)

Yep sorry mate, I did lose sight of that somewhat, well quite a bit, well lots really, OK I LOST ALL SITE OF THAT!! Apart from that, I was nearly close to making a good point :)..

On point, I'd probably go the opposite way, but for no other reason than feeling, in the long term, AVB is perhaps more likely to be a constant at the club, whereas Bale is really on borrowed time, unfortunately for us :(..

I agree with you that it's entirely unlikely we will ever see a season of individual brilliance like Bale gave us again, he essentially compensated for us losing Rafa and Modric with the way his performances went off the scale.

The key question for me about AVB is this, would we have have amassed 72 points if Redknapp had that squad plus uber-Bale? Not a chance.

You're so much better than that mate, there is not a chance in hell you can make that prediction.

You know I'm not better than that Bear.

I think AVB has squeezed that bit more out of the squad than Harry did, small margins etc. Not saying we'd have been 10th, but I can't see Harry getting that squad to 72 points, sorry, just don't see it one bit.

I think Bale has masked a lot of the deficiencies in the team, but I would much rather AVB than Harry with that team. In fact I will state my firm belief that Harry wouldn't have seen out the season. The whining would have gone up to about Level 278578500000 on the Scale after the summer dealings and then injuries and how his squad was now shit, everyone would have been fed up with him and he would have been fired or walked out as things fell apart.

Didnt see us finishing 4th twice either, weird things happen. You don't see it because you don't want to. You love the sexy ginger bastard too much.

Maybe, but I'm convinced we would have seen a better Adebayor.

I do love the sexy ginger bastard yes, he had me when he tapped his knees.

I'm glad Harry is no longer our manager, that may seem disrespectful of someone who took us to 4th twice but so be it, I think AVB is perfect for us and will show himself to be the top coach that I think he is, can't wait for next season.

If we still have Bale, then I agree.

If we don't, I fear another Ramos. Sorry but it's how I see it.

Ok then question, take Bale away this summer - who would you prefer in charge of the side, AVB or Redders. Immense dimensions or raan araand a bit?

Could toss a coin to be honest. For the football side anyway.

The media side and for who looks better in a suit. Then it's TSB all day.

Hmmm I wonder what peoples perspective is now? Hypothetically, Given our season thus far, Who was more important last season? Avb clearly got something out of team that had to deal with two serious injuries to two of our key players, Though Bale was clearly a major difference for us.
