AVB picks Dawson because.........until everyone's fit he is unable to play a defence that reads;

LORIS
WALKER VLAD VERTS ROSE

None of the alternatives are risky when the alternative is Dawson and the opposition increasingly target him as a weak link.

Sorry, but I can't agree with that, they are all far more risky options than Dawson. Walker & Capoue are not natural centre-backs & all of the options bar Capoue require us to either play Vertonghen out of position - which he can do well admittedly but its not his strongest position - or to play Naughton, probably at left back. I didn't see the full game tonight (back on spud duty) but from the highlights, the worst I saw him do was slip while passing out of defence...

Ideally, I'd have Vlad, Verts & Kaboul at CB ahead of him but at the moment we don't have that luxury so I still think he's a better option than putting square pegs in round holes - AVB does that enough already so...lets not encourage him, eh? ;)

It seems the manager has to be supported no matter what but individual players can be slated.

Lol at playing Walker at CB. If you think Dawson has his moments there, I don't think you'd suddenly relax with Walker playing there.

On paper he's probably our weakest CB but the way some talk you'd think he's fucking Gary Doherty.

By the way, he saved two nearly certain goals on Sunday with fantastic tackles/blocks, one of which was caused by Dembele needlessly giving the ball away.

what, by the way, is 'a john terry scenario'?

because if it is somehow meant to imply that sitting dawson would make him a disruptive force in the locker room/squad, then even suggesting it - let alone voting for it - seems beyond the pale. during dawson's time at spurs we've bought how many centerhalfs - many/most of whom for the very purpose of replacing him - and his response has never been anything but to get on with it and try to earn his minutes. even when told he wasn't going to play, he preferred working as a squaddie to being sold off. john terry scenario? c'mon.

folks can state their mind here however they choose, but hearing people give dawson grief for getting picked has long ago grown tiresome. if you must, though, can we at least keep it to 'he's not good enough'? fear of whinging - let alone blackmail - seems a pretty big reach to try to explain how a professional manager sees an England international as first choice in an injury depleted squad.

... unless, of course, I've read this wrong and we think AVB fears that if daws doesn't start, his mum will start stealing from the gift shop or that he'll do wayne bridge's wife.

Lol blame Dawson all you want, our football ATM is dire and it's nothing to do with Dawson.

Yes but we have three defenders who are far better than him. This thread isn't about our troubles in attack.

He's a poor footballer, doesn't that make him at least partially responsible ?

One of his fuck-ups cost us another goal tonight. That was very much something to do with him.

I have to say as much as I love Daws he needs to come out of the team. I would actually rather see Kyle 2 come in as left back and Jan go back in the centre with Vlad. Daws makes too many errors lately. Needs time out

Watched MOTD tonight and I my spidey sense tingled when I saw Dawson's "run". I knew it was going to go horribly wrong and so it did. However I have to wonder where the rest of the defence disappeared to.

AVB picks Dawson because......Rose in injured, Fryers is injured, Kaboul can't do 90 minutes, we sold Bale and we can't recall BAE

He was picking Dawson before Rose's injury too. Maybe he felt Chiriches wasn't ready and Kaboul wasn't fit.

I'm not saying for a second that dawson isn't due a spell out of the side after recent performances but paulinho's lightweight attempt at a challenge made dawson's pass look even worse than it was. Similar to his involvement in newcastle's winning goal, moussa's pass to him was poor but he needs to be much much quicker and stronger in the challenge.

They're both inexplicably undroppable. Paulinho made a decent pass on Sunday and he was involved in a counter attack against Fulham but he also has some very strange habits. People talk about us being negative but he's one of the worst offenders. I'm sure he's a great player but I'm not sure he can justify starting ahead of Lamela, Holtby or Eriksen. Next season I'm sure we'll see the player that Corinthians hated to sell.

at one point yesterday before he went of, Sandro was our main playmaker in the middle. I love him to death, dont get me wrong, but a playmaker he aint.
Its hard watching us at the moment, i struggle big time to see the where light at the end of the tunnel is going to come from.

Yes he was responsible for the goal individually but there must be reasons AVB is picking him?

I think singling out one player when are play is so mind numbing lay shite is a very easy option, after watching The other teams in action last night that became even more apparent.

All boils down to the fact that AVB or whoever it was that decided to let BAE go is an incompetent twit.

This is why we have to use Jan at LB and not at CB, and (hopefully) why we keep having to start Dawson. Who IMO is a really, really, really bad footballer.

.

When Vlad didnt have all his paperwork and Kaboul was getting back to match fitness from his injury last season?

It wasnt untill after Rose's injury that Vlad started to play games and just after that Kaboul got Injured yet again and only played in 1 of the next 8 games where he injured him self again

u have to agree though its not all Dawson - the defense has been tight on most occasions and he has done his job. Yes, we have had a few shocking results but if he was that bad - we'd be at the foot of the table.

As soon as we sign a left back or Rose comes back then Dawson needs to be dropped immediately. Chiri and Verts first choice CB's.

We also need to consider bringing in another centre half because no matter how good he may be, Kaboul is no use to us with his lack of fitness and Dawson simply doesn't possess the footballing ability to succeed at the very top.

The title of the thread isn't "we are garbage because Dawson is in the team". My point is simply that given the quality of our football there are a number of things wrong but the most obvious of which is picking the so slow Dawson for a high line defence. If we drop him will we all of sudden be Spurs circa Jan 2012 ? No. We will however have fixed an obvious problem. We can then move on to others like - never pick Defoe as a lone striker, another fairly obvious team selection issue just one that happens less frequently than picking Dawson.

Lets be honest....fans who want Dawson in the team long term, shouldn't really complain if we finish outside the top 4,hasn't the penny dropped yet that he is not really top draw, at a Stoke or a Sunderland would be more his thing, but if you are looking for a team competeing at the very top and then the CL itself, then please stop kidding ourselves that Dawson is our man ....it sounds harsh because he is so likeable and loves us so much...but i love spurs more than i love Dawson....sorry Michael..:(
