thank you! Will check those out.

On a related note, did anybody listen to Thursday's Football weekly extra pod? There was some chat at the end about AVB and his press conferences and he he chatted for an hour about his ideas, his philosophy, etc. The Guardian boys were making noises about getting him in to do something similar for them.

Good stuff. Answers questions directly. Doesn't treat audience like children who wouldn't understand what he was saying. Liked the way he explained the plan to shut down Lazio's supply line by forcing them to play to only certain players.

Negatives: He even sounds the same in Porugesee :eek::eek:

Were you expecting him to suddenly ridiculously squeaky or something in his native language?

I'm assuming he has a 'posh' accent in portuguese - have always been amused by the fact that apparently old CR7 sounds common as muck in Portuguese!

A little variation in pitch, maybe.

I have a book from the 40s on colloquial Portugeesee idioms...might send it down to André - help him assimilate with the Plebs Pleborum (y)

Very interesting, lvoe his attitude to the EUFA Cup and was most certainly right that if we played Lazio in CL it would have been a massive game, but because it was the EUFA (less money involved) it was just meh game to most. Despite the fact that was two big big clubs involved.

I really really like AVB.

He was actually speaking Italian to my pleasant surprise.

How many languages DOES he speak altogether? The Italian makes sense from his time at Inter and i'm assuming Spanish as well as Portuguese and English.

It's very normal for continental footballers to speak 3-4 languages.

thanks for the link, I've been looking for something like that!

really does seem to have an "encyclopedic knowledge of football" as people have said, and speaks a lot of sense

I guess a big part of his seeming diffidence may be the Portugese character and/or the 'Saudade' they're always going on about being central to it. Apparent glumness (or intended modesty) might be reflections of a deep but not unpleasant melancholy they feel permeates their culture.

:ROFLMAO: An interesting variant on the fiery Latin temperament stereotype. Please excuse me while I get back to being congenitally staid (y)
