I find it difficult to feel any sympathy for Bale. As soon as Real started sniffing his eyes were like saucers, dreaming of all the riches and the oppotunity to see Ronaldo in his tighty whities on a weekly basis. Obviously his agent was probably in his ear too.

Had he realised that he had it on a plate at Spurs, with a manager that wanted a team built round him (IMO), a system that was reaping playing rewards for him, and a club that was really pushing for the big time with fans that adored him, and that nothing, NOTHING, was guaranteed to suggest that all that could be replicated at Real, then he would have been in a much better place now. As it is, I beleive he will now turn out to the most expensive 'flop'.

Quite sad really, but that's what happens to silly boys.

I certainly don't have any sympathy for Bale, but I also don't hold any dislike or hatred towards him. He will have to work extremely hard to reach the same heights that he did for us with Real Madrid. I think having the freedom to do what he pleased and to have that level of acknowledgement and respect from the teammates to let him do what he wants with us really did enhance his game. He won't have that at Madrid, at least not at first, he will always feel like he has more of a responsibility to pass the ball, support others, not be as selfish etc.

Once he gets past that and starts to establish himself as truly one of the best players in the world, to be able to be a bit selfish again then I think he will shine. I've always said that I think he just has way too much natural ability to flop. Unfortunately for him is that he may have a lot of 'good' games but with the worlds most expensive player tag he will need to provide a hell of a lot more than that to the team.

I don't doubt that he probably does have injury issues, and, as you say, he has nobody to blame but himself if he didn't keep up his fitness levels during his 'strike'. But I think even genuine injuries will start to be counted against him as time goes by if he doesn't make an impact, particularly if they also realise that Spurs weren't keeping him chained up in a basement and he was perfectly capable of avoiding some of these issues.

Patience will be thin on the ground. I mean, Modric WAS training last summer and still took months to adapt.
Indeedy doody. He's got to show a little something, if only in a flash or moment or two or the white hankies will be out.

They got shirty enough with Modric and he was virtually a bargain basement purchase for them.

Yep, for all those of us wishing him bad luck, I hope we'll enjoy watching him in the red of Manchester United in a year's time.....

Unless we have first refusal or money still tied up in GB I don't think he'll ever be back to us.

He can fire them to 5th place finish after 5th place finish and not a single fuck will be given.:meh:

We got 6 yrs and the best squad I;ve ever seen with my own eyes at this club out of him. Not sure why anyone would wish him bad luck, even if they're unimpressed with that way things went this summer. I'm still convinced it'll click for him there and when it does, look out La Liga.

I feel he will go down as the most expensive flop in history. Not because of a lack of talent, he just wont live up to the standards he is expected to set being at Madrid.

I would welcome him back though.

It's no London though is it? Spain is a mess also.

Reckon he will be back here next season. Hopefully magician Levy has put a buy back clause in the contract. Got a feeling he will be back home and by that time we will be very close to having the compete team and will be challenging for the title and champions league.

I for one would welcome him back with open arms. It wouldn't be the first time a British player hasn't settled abroad. There's been plenty.

The premier league is where it's at. All the other leagues in Europe just don't compete.

I've read this post twice just to make sure and, yes, every part (start, middle, and end) is just fucking stupid.

Its certainly very like Kaka's move, an injury hit start to a big money move. Add to that Di Mara is loved by the Madrid fans and Ozil was a massive part of their team and Bale certainly isn't goign to have an easy year. Spanish media claimign he is going to have a 3 week "preaseason" before he starts competitive games..... quite funny actually. Check out some of the Madrid forums for a laugh.

If he flops he'll end up back in the PL but I doubt it will be with us

He will be able to retire forever from this deal so if you work to earn money then he has succeeded. If the stories of other clubs, including united, offering more for him are true then maybe the RM plan all along was to get him cheaper because he would only go there and then sell him for a profit...now DL would do that

Doubt he will ever be able to live up to his price tag but I expect he should do ok IF he is given time to settle and that is a big if.

It never made sense though for madrid to buy him IMO as they plain and simple didn't need him, they would have been much better off spending that money on falcao or cavani up front, a position they actually need strengthening in. As it stands we look like coming out of it the best with the new lads :) and rightly so!

I agree - they should have gone all out to sign any one of Falcao, Cavani or even Suarez before signing Bale

Its just that on the back of last season Bale was the biggest most high profile signing out there - well on the back of a few high profile successful years following the Inter hattrick he was the biggest most exciting name in football aside from Ronaldo and Messi and Real just wanted the high profile signing ahead of what made most sense for their team

For the record I think he'll do well out there - but he wasn't what they needed and they should have spent the money else where. Its unlikely he'll be able to justify his price tag, especially if they fail to win the league or CL (as seems likely)

There is zero chance he will go for a profit unless he performs in Spain.

His injury probably isnt going to do him any favours because as soon as hes back hes going to be expected to perform. Especially if the gap between Barca and Madrid is even larger or even worst the gap between Athletico and Real.

Lol at Bale being sold for a profit after his transfer to RM.

Firstly RM overpaid for him by approximately £20m-£35m

Then he would have to win WPotY 3 times on the trot

And then only 4 clubs could afford him.

All this talk of ManU offering more is bollocks. If for one second you think that Levy would accept 20-40m less for Bale and that Man U would offer that amount more in the first place, you are seriously deluded.

Gareth Bale has a thigh injury but there seems to be more to it than that. The ever diplomatic Chris Coleman said this week that he thought Bale would face injury problems throughout this season because of what happened in the summer, and the Spanish press have gone further.
Bale didn't have a pre-season campaign which was down to his own choices and desperation to join Real Madrid, but it's not just the actual lack of physical training which is causing problems for Bale. Coleman was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying "He has had the weight and stress of “will the move happen, won’t it?”. I think he has gone into it when he is not at his best, physically or mentally. It has had an effect."

The mental side is further covered by El Confidencial, probably the closest newspaper to Real Madrid. They say "The nerves of the hundred days of negotiations between Florentino Perez and Daniel Levy have taken a toll on the player."

They say both Bale's mind and body was harmed by the events and make it sound like he left as something of a nervous wreck, panicking that his dream move to Real Madrid was in the balance. Then, when he finally arrived, he'd been so keen to make up for lost time that he pushed himself too much and is now injured.
Gareth Bale isn't expected back for Real Madrid before the final weekend of October and may be spared the pressure then, because that's El Clasico time. His breakdown at the Bernabeu whilst warming up ahead of what was supposed to be his home debut has been covered widely in Spain and not kindly by the Catalan media.
The Barcelona friendly press doubt whether Bale was ready for such a big move and have already compared to previous Real Madrid players who struggled with injury and pressure. If Bale wasn't aware how critical the Spanish media could be then he's certainly aware now. If the former Tottenham star can get himself fit then scoring the winner against Barcelona at the Camp Nou would be a great way of answering back.
