upfront with Defoe? He can finish with both feet n head. Fast as fuck and pretty strong. Ronaldo-esque.

Gomes
Hutton Gallas Kaboul Ekotto
VdV Jenas Modric Kranjcar
Defoe Bale

how many times do our strikers get a chance one on one with an isolated cb and they just fluff it, now with Bale in that postion we all know that outcome.

He gets on the end of stuff well too, can really see this getting tried and working.

Enjoy that.

Most wingers stay on the wing for two reasons too small/not strong enough and/or can't finish. Bale has these.

Why when Walcott gets talked about getting the Henry conversion (winger to striker) people assume only Wenger could manage this feat? Bale could turn into an immense 30+ goal scorer like Ronaldo and Henry.

^^ Agreed (with TwoSaints). Deff not a striker, he'd see more of the ball at LM probably and he can do plenty of damage from there with mulitple assists and goals. Being out wide also gives him the ability to just run with the ball more, which is obviously one of the things he's best at.

In a 4-3-3 he'd be pretty good, like what we played against Stoke, which I swear is the only time we've played an actual 4-3-3 which surprises me if so, thought we played quite well with it...

This.

Playing him upfront takes away from his ability to not only stretch defenses when he's out on the wing, but he can contribute with not only goals but assists as well.

The lad is so bloody good that you could almost stick him anywhere. It has been suggested elsewhere that we could play him up top if we're stuck and I just couldn't shoot the idea down, to be honest. It all got a bit desperate lately with the Crouch fixation.

If it's not broke don't fix it but he has played the VDV role for wales and was sensational!

What Harry said after the game about Bale not getting into the game in the first half, and asking him to play narrower in the second half got me thinking.

With the way Bale is going to be marked tightly everytime he plays now, and with us needing him driving on from midfield, a tucked in role which emphasises getting him on the ball early and in dangerous areas makes the most sense, similar to how Malouda is increasingly being deployed by Chelsea these days.

With Lennon out of form and increasingly looking like he will be an impact sub for the foreseeable future, and the need to accomodate Van Der Vaart being problematic in so far as it reduces our ability to play with two strikers, which in turn makes wingers whipping crosses into the box somewhat pointless, this could really solve a number of problems and see us get even more out of Bale game in game out than we are currently; moreover, it will allow and extra man to come into the midfield, which will give us extra security that has been hopelessly lacking since Huddlestone got injured/Palacios' brothers' death caused him to lose his previous focus and effectiveness.

Our line up would therefore be:

Gomes

Hutton Kaboul Gallas Ekotto

Sandro Jenas Modric

VDV Bale

Defoe

Looks pretty good to me but what do you reckon?

I still think 4-3-3 is best for us

---------------Gomes----------------
Hutton----Gallas---Kaboul----- BAE
---------------------------------------
----Jenas----Huddlestone---Modric-
--------------------------------------
VDV-------Pavulychenko-------Bale

We really could destroy ted with it
