Spurs are completely different to Wales though, I could see him playing in a 4 3 3 on the outside but not as a striker.

i think he could play in a messi type role as well.

guardiola basically lets messi drift. if he comes inside villa or bojan drift into messis position

One of Bales best part of his games is running at people, Speed, and Stamina. Putting Bale upfront as a striker IMO will not utilise some of these aspects that he has, he wont have as much space to try and run at people and wont be running as much as would be a waste as he would do a hell of a lot more running in midfield.... Keep him where he is most dangers, and that is running the wing and putting in some great crosses!

Im convinced long term Bale will become a central midfield player at the moment his electric in the positions his at now but also believe Bale could play upfront ie Van Rapist like Role.

I can see him moving to the centre, he has all the attributes to be fantastic there, but how would it effect the balance of the current side? You'd have to move VdV to the left-midfield role, but would that result in a net loss in potency for the team? Bale would have to be going some to better VdV's scoring record playing in that hole. And VdV would have to deliver crosses mainly from deep because he's not going to get to the byline.

So in retrospect, even though Bale could probably play there, given our other players I'd say keep to the present system.

Bale as nominal LW/wide forward in a Total Football side with everyone drifting around. A midfield of Bale-Modric-vdV-Lennon(if on form) would be great for that.

Doesn't anyone want to bring back the "Bale should be playing fullback, dammit" debate? Clearly his defensive skills are being wasted in his current role...

How about we just stick with what is working and play him on the left hand side; no matter if it is a LB or LM??

Well , he scored vs the Arse from the centre ...and he lined up on the left .

The boy is very intelligent and when he gets double-triple marked out on the wing, he moves around . You could argue that these teams set up to multiple mark him on the wing are just creating more shit for themselves when he comes in and roasts their centre backs and threatens to score...alongside VDV .

Remember , our strikers haven't been doing well and until a great one comes in we have to be a bit creative .Just let Bale and VDV do what feels right ,they are both on that stellar level at the moment .

We need him wide as that ability to break at pace, drag defenders out wide is what allows the likes of Pav and soon Defoe to have all the space to get on his crosses

I think Bale could up front, he's got the ability to do so. I posted something to the effect that it was an option for us a few weeks back.

Someone rightly replied and said "We have the world's best left winger.... why would we then play him up front?!?!" - for years we've struggled to get a decent left winger. Since Ginola, probably. Now we have one, we want to play him up front?!

I'd perhaps only play him up top in extreme circumstances, so it is an option, but no... keep letting him rip teams apart from left wing.

Not as a striker in a 442. But definately as a "wide striker" in a 433. Ya get me?

This.

The current set-up is van der Vaart floats in a free role behind the centre forward with two wide attacking players flanking him.

These are in effect also forwards as they would for example be expected to get in the box as well when play is on the opposite side - so if our right winger had the ball Bale should move a bit more centrally to allow more targets in and around the box (with BAE shifting up to provide a left wing outlet if the ball is pinged too far!).

In our current system I actually have reservations about Lennon as you really need the two wide players to be able to score as well as provide - Chelsea were a good example of this when they had Duff and Robben a few years back.

He does have a nice finish on him though so hopefully with more work, as he's been shown to work hard to improve, he'll get better at this.

If there's one area of Lennon's game that needs improving, its goals goals goals. I still view Lennon as a working progress he has continually got better from when he first burst onto the scene till now, his a better footballer. When you watch Lennon its unbelievable how much he is tag teamed something Bale will need to deal with but now is the time to adjust his game and in a way use Bale's position in the team to carve a new direction in his development.

His immaculate crossing ability would be wasted if we played him up front. He's scoring enough from the left as it is anyway.
