"Bale can't play left midfield"
"Bale is at his best running at pace from deep"

and worst of all

"Well the official website list's him as a defender."

John Pratts, all of you. Anyone with half an eye could see he would be mustard there.

Fulham resorted to double marking him, nullifying Duff as an attacking threat.

Salgado, an experienced pro, and multi medal winner, got absolutely anally invaded about 10 times on Saturday.

You can't beat pace on the wing, and when Lennon comes back, we must play them both. Teams will sh1t themselves.

So would you drop modric/kranjcar to accomodate him? As its quite clear their best position is coming in from the left.

When Roberto Carlos was terrorising teams with his pace from left back at Real Madrid and Brazil did you think that his managers made wrong decisions and should have in fact played him left mid?

You mean IF Lennon comes back (this season, anyway). Harry doesn't think it looks good. I like the idea, but when it might actually happen is anyone's guess.

Modric is still better on the left and Bale is still better overlapping into the space created for him.

It was Blackburn, a team that have lost 18 of their last 20 away and it was Salgado who is too old and has looked out of his depth all season in this league.

Bale was great on Saturday, but I still felt we lacked the craft that Modric brings from the left and against a better opponent, Modric will have to do more work in midfield as Wilson covered it all on his own.

Oh please, the man is at Blackburn for the pay day. I have seen him a few times this season and he is a bag of brown!

I am not saying that he didn't have a crackign game he did, and I was really impressed but it will take a run of good performances at LM before I am hailing him the next Giggs. I hope he does it because he will give us something we miss a lot without Lennon.

People were stating them comments in the first half of the season when Bale just didnt look with it, no one doubted his potential and it looks like he may well start to be living up to it.

HANDS OFF WHISKEY NOSE!

I don't think anyone said he can't play left midfield, I think everyone said he could play there, and well, it's just that he's better from left back.

Dont get me wrong, Salgado was shit when he was good, but it wasn't just a day of getting the better of him, he ruined him more than I've ever seen a premier league full back ruined. In a position where you all said he he wouldn't be at his best.

He wouldn't have done the same at Left back cos he wouldn't have been that far up the pitch, as often as he was.

Modric can play the middle next to Palacios all day. They were different class against 3 men on Saturday. At the minute for the first time in years, our right side is the side out of form. Stable, but not great.

You forgot "Bale can't defend". The thing is, he's done tremendously at LW, yes, but not so much more offensively than while playing LB. His fantastic physics and work rate mean he can play fullback and still be as much of an attacking threath as most of the wingers in the league, which is bloody fantastic. The combination of him and Modric (or Kranjcar) on the left hand side and Corluka and Lennon on the right is mouthwatering and combined with my main man señor Gomes, a good strikeforce, a solid defence and Palacios/Huddlestone in CM the best team we've had for 20 years...

Erm, got a bit carried away, guess my point was I'm even more impressed with his LB performances and loves what he adds to what was already a pretty flying side!

You missed Edman's performance against Lennon then in the 9-1 massacre? Luckily for us, Bale is class in both positions but when all the midfield is fit I would play him at LB, especially now he has sorted out the defensive side to his game.

Would I drop Krankjar to accomodate him? Is that a joke?

Its not a joke.

You didn't answer any of my other questions either. At the end of the day you can't base your opinion on the fact Bale roasted a 34 year old has been.

Personally the prospect of an inform Bale and Lennon right and left wing is rather mouth watering, any defence would be scared shitless containing both of them, then you got the creati ve threat from Modric, Kranjcar and Huddlestone, whoever is in the middle at the time.

fool. Most people admit he's a good enough footballer to do a job in most postions and none more so that left wing BUT many of those quotes you've listed were in the context of his best position. LB he'll be a world beater at LB he won't be a world beater at Lm. Come back to us after the run of fixtures that include playing agasint full backs such as

Richards, Neville, Sagna and Ivanovic rather than Stephen Kelly and Michel Salgado.

Waht would make you want to write that crap down in a forum proir to seeing him play LM against a decent team?

He is just as good attacking from LB as from LW and playing him at LB frees up room for Modric - just makes more sense.

The beauty of Bale as LB is that his engine is so good that he plays as an auxiliary winger anyway, and that his presence there means you can have and extra man in midfield, ie Modric drifting in. Its almost like playing 4-5-2...a dream for any manager.

This is the correct answer.

Bale doesn't have great acceleration, but superb top speed.

He's like Bowzer on Mario Kart, as opposed to Koopa (Aaron Lennon).

He doesn't have that burst but once he gets going he's quality. It also allows Modric to tuck in, and therefore creating the maximum amount of Spurs Attacking Sexytime.

I prefer Bale as a LB and in an attacking team, fullbacks who bomb up and down the flanks create havoc!

Bale at lb for me, he's done a good job at lw in the last few games and has shown that he can play there. Which the majority of posters suggested, but there is no way he would be able to beat a right back with more pace as easily as he did Salgado.

I would say though that it is a very good option to have that we can now play too quality players at left back and left wing who are both left footed. Must be a long while since we've had that.

Teams very rarely play with two out and out wide men these days and there's good reason for it. It leaves the midfield very stretched (which is a particular problem for us with Hudd not exactly having electric pace).

You need one of the 'wide' men to tuck in which is why Modric is so effective on the left. If and when we have Bale and Lennon fit I hope Harry keeps the Bale and Modric combo on the left otherwise we'll start getting ripped apart in midfield.
