That is pretty much how I put it on page 5 and got the usual Defoe on his own stuff:

So I think you're saying this:

...................Gomes
Chalky....Dawson....Bassong....BAE
..............Hudd.....Palacios
Lennon.........Modric.............Bale
...................Defoe

but effectivley we end up with the same thing with Bale and Lennon working the wings

And you still haven't answered the question - with that formation, where are the goals gonna come from?

Ignoring, for the moment, your obsession with breaking-up our most effective left-wing pairing, since way back when, and playing them out of position:roll:

Disagree completely. Yet to prove himself at LM. Was quiet against fulham compared to his bursts from LB. Was fortunate that salgado has 2/100 pace remaining.

Against the top-half teams, he will prove to be a poor LM. However, playing LB against them, his attacking runs will change games.

Um... when does his contract run out?

Off to United in the Summer I reckon.

just saw this on the BBC website, transfer gossip page:

"Real Madrid are keen on Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, who is thought to be interested in a move to Spain, with Manchester United's Patrice Evra their back-up target if they fail to land the England international."

It is in The Mirror, though, which seems to take a delight in running any story which would ruffle our feathers.

Don't think you can say 'he will prove to be a poor LM'. He's obviously good enough to play LM and his performances have been as much about the quality of his crossing as his ability to run past people and he can develop that to make him an effective LM.

He's certainly got the skills to do it...I just don't think we should play two out and out wingers so if Lennon is fit then Bale at left back makes sense.

Why? The left midfield alts (Modders and Kranj) are probably more porous than Bale.

ok. maybe not poor. But nowhere near as effective from LB. Would you rather have him on the field IN ADDITION TO A LM, and UNMARKED or.... have a defensive LB with bale being marked, maybe by 2 at LM?

Maybe BAE and Bale should be an away game selection. But then look at how luka managed to turn the game on that mud they call "the DW stadium".

Its a good problem to have.

Benny is a better defender than Bale, but Bale is too good to keep off the field, but what do you do with Luka?

Like I said, its a good problem to have.

But Bale is marked by two at LB Look at the Bolton & Everton games for example, he is never umarked and so that isn't really a choice we will ever have the opportunity to make.
