Presumably it's fine for Phil Jones to be withheld from the tournament given how tired he is after all those games he played at Euro 2012.

Of course some people's hero Gary Lineker has had to throw his two cents into the mix.
I follow Lineker on Twitter and the more he tweets the less i like the bloke! seems to have an opinion about everything! Also makes up quite a lot of Jokes which are imho not funny at all.

It's all a load of typical hyperbollocks from the tabloids. Bale won't get banned...Spurs have done nothing wrong...and Blatter will continue to be a ****.

Is it against the rules for a player to say he refuses the invite?

Because surely that's all this boils down to. But we probably tried to be more polite by blaming his fitness.

I think he genuinely wanted to play in it, however it sounded as if he had some slight problems with his back, and seeing as this lead to some major time off last season the club quite correctly decided to pull him out. If it turned out not to be as serious as feared, well, that's neither here nor there.

In all honesty I wouldn't have blamed him for rejecting the offer, considering the small section of Welsh fans that decided to boo him when playing for Wales for having the audacity to reveal his willingness to play in the Olympics.

I love the way the Welsh players in particular are comparing this to a World Cup, knowing their chances of appearing at one are slim. It's the equivalent of a youth tournament!

iirc bale really wanted to play for team GB... the reason he wasn't selected was due to injury right? i am sure if there was a chance he would be named for the team, he would have gone for it.

Blatter is at the GB womans game at the moment, must be checking if the shorts are tight enough.

That's sort of the idea of twitter isn't it, having an opinion on everything and twittering on about any old thing? basically have a thought - tweet it

Yes i suppose it is but he just seems to come across a bit dickish! I follow loads of people and they dont seem to have the same effect. I'm not quite sure how but he just manages to irritate.... I may even unfollow him. I know he will be upset ;-)

This is just silly. Blatter needs to get a grip and resign ASAP.

I found it pretty surprising Bale dropped out after spending a couple of years trumpeting the tournament and prepared to run the wrath of the Welsh. I can also see that Pearce, Giggs etc would be pretty pissed off but it is entirely possible to be too injured to front up for a major tourney but ok for some measured on field time in casual pre season football.
