Bale undroppable?

When reading the thread regarding who VDV would replace in the first team, I came across a few "Bale is undroppable" comments. IMHO that's actually debatable.

I must admit that he's been the most improved player in the squad. His performance at left wing is pure class. What we've definitely been missing since Ginola I'd say.

However if like some suggests that he slot into the left back position due to him being 'undroppable' I'd have to say I'd disagree. For all his skills and running threat on the left I'd say his defending is a little suspect. Don't get me wrong here he's not totally useless as a left back but he's performances aren't exactly of a genuine left back YET.

To sum it up, if he were to maintain in the left wing position then fine, undroppable. But as a left back, I'd say he still has to compete with BAE. However I am not a football manager so what do I know. What do you guys think?

On current form yes. It's all about whether he is on form or not. We can drop any player who is not on form, because we have a great squad.

He's un-droppable barring a major loss of form and even then it would have to be marked and over several games.

First name on the team sheet at the moment and currently undroppable. He's one of the only world class players we have.

Lennon is also no certainty to start with the squad we have. VDV, Modric or Bentley on the right.

He's definitely not world class yet. We'll see what he can do in the Champions League

I do think he'll prove to be world class though. He just needs to do it on the big stage first.

Saw the reports in the papers linking him with Real Madrid and started to wonder what he must be worth now. £30+ million maybe? Hope DL isn't planning on using him to fund one end of our shiny new stadium.

No, not undroppable. No player is undroppable - that's the point of having a squad. Yes, he's a fan-cocking-tastic player and, if fit, i rejoice to see him on the pitch but he's by no means undroppable.

We have a dirth of talent across our midfield but, as we saw against Wigan and, to some degree, against Citeh, it's not impossible to shut him out of the game. Equally, i'd still have Crabman in at left back, even if Harry did choose to send out a midfield without Bale - defensively, he's leaps and bounds ahead of Bale right now.

Niko & Luka have both shown their talent out on that left side, now we can add VDV to that list. Just because they can't run at 8 bajillion mph it doesn't mean we'd be any worse off. Ginola wasn't a whippet yet he managed to light up the park every time he played so, whilst i appreciate the huge contribution he makes and the fear he can put up his opposing number, to say he's undroppable is foolhardy.

Bale isnt world class yet, and he isnt 'Undroppable', but at the moment he would be my first name on the team sheet.

A bold and wholly innacurate statement. Just because Bale has put in some sintilating performances, we cannot yet say he is world class. He has not performed on the biggest stage yet, he has not consistently performed at the highest level fro long enough, he simply cannot be considered world class.

I'm just interpreting world class differently. I'm not suggesting he's done it at the top level but he is the only player of ours that when's he's on song looks like he could totally dominate an opposition team.

The only player in our team that I can look at and compare to some of the truely world class players simply because of the way he plays and the difference he makes against top quality teams in the premier league.

The only player in our team that would command 25 - 35m fee to get us to sell etc.

Yes, he hasn't done it at the top level yet but, unless he goes through a drastic lack of form, he will.

I think banding a term like "World Class" round for all players who on their day look excellent kind of dilutes the meaning of the term. To be considered world class you should have done the work that the tag merits.

I think Bale is Top Class, and will one day be viewed as World Class. I hope he can fulfil his ambitions and grow into his World Class tag with us and doesn't go elsewhere to do it.

Thats why players often move from clubs like us. Berba did it for example. Whilst we could say he was World Class, he knew, to be trully considered World Class he had to do it on the biggest stage. he didn't believe we could offer him that.

I would say that, in the form he is in, Bale is undroppable. First name on the team sheet for me, at present. Even if he lost form at some point, I would still stick with him for at least several games, to show loyalty and faith him, and prevent him from losing too much confidence.
Bale ftw!

He's still rotatable in my book.

He looked tired against Wigan and we need to manage him effectively. He's only 20.

No player is undroppable and the assertion that Gareth Bale is world class playing anywhere on the left is also laughable. Will Bale ever become world class? Possibly (we may get away with saying probably) as he has all the talent required, but we should remember he has only been playing in such a sintilating fashion for less than a year now. Which is nowhere near long enough to be considered up there with your Messi's, Ronaldo's and even Robben's.

Also on players who would cost £25 million+ for us to even consider selling, surely Modric would fall into that bracket infact i'm sure he would cost more than Bale right now.

What about if we had Abidal at LB and Messi at LW - would Bale be droppable then?

No, bacause Abidal is on his last legs and Messi doesn't play LW.

It would more likely be Ekotto and Lennon whos place was in jeapordy.

It's a good point. Lennon was sensational when he burst onto the scene. His form dipped for a while though from a combination of fatigue and defences learning to handle him better. Bale is going to have to cope with both of those factors along with the growing weight of expectation on him.
