I still can't work it out... I think looking at the way he strikes it, that he just deceived Reina.

Looked like it went quite straight to me, no idea what Reina was doing. God help Friedel if he conceded a fk like that.

No spin on the ball after it passed the wall, it didn't take a deflection.

Just Reina being Reina. Have said consistently that he is over-rated and not the level of keeper a lot of people think he is.

Bale has started hitting freekicks Ronaldo style.....
Todays free kick went though 2 players in wall whilst swerving towards the corner and i just dont think reina saw it in time.....

Yeah, Reina assumed Bale was going to curl it in, but he just hit it practically straight down the middle.

I assumed even after seeing replays that it hit the wall. Even looking again its what it looks like but seeing Villas Boas and Bale's comments about it I guess it went straight in.

It's a strange one, from one angle I'm sure it takes a deflection, from the view behind the goal, I'm not so sure.

Assist, goal, own goal - Bingo!

(And the BBC say he headed into his own goal - it was much more comedic than that! Indeed, arrived home late, and only started watching after 20 minutes, but still got to see Lennon and Bale scoring!)

It looked like a deflection from where i was sat.

Me too, but having seen the replay it doesn't. Reina thought he was going to curl it, even though Bale's been trying Ronaldo-style free kicks for ages now.
