each to their own, both amazing players.

I wouldn't deny that. For me though, Messi is the best footballer I've seen in my lifetime.

I appreciate that they're different types of players. Ronaldo is a complete player, but what Messi does borders on witchcraft at times. I'm still not entirely convinced he's real.

I know this argument gets put on repeat, but I still feel like Messi has to do it somewhere other than Barcelona to really prove himself as one of the all time greats. I know he's got a great set up at Barca, so it's understandable should he not want to move, and quite frankly hardly anyone can afford him (surely no one can afford him and still be within the financial fair play rules?), but still. Ronaldo showed what he can do in the premiership against good defences week in week out, scoring 41 goals in one season (I think). If Messi could top that in the prem then I think he'd undoubtebly go down as one of, if not the all time great.

I think it's pretty safe to say he'll go down as one of the all time greats even if he retired tomorrow. I get your point about being able to do it in another league, but he's on course to become Barcelona's all time legend due to his commitment to the club (as well as the performances obviously).

I think the old cliche of having to lead his national team to a world cup is probably true if he wants to be regarded as the greatest. The real Ronaldo and Maradona underlined their abilities by doing it on what is still widely regarded as the greatest stage in football. If he could somehow help Argentina win the world cup in Brazil's own back yard, I wouldn't be surprised to see him ascend to Heaven with the trophy in his hands.

Yeah, I could completely understand him not wanting to leave Barcelona - why should he? He's got everything he needs really. I think as you say, World Cup is probably the place to do it.

Admittedly I'm massively prejudiced as I've supported Barca almost as long as I've supported Spurs :D

I'm 37 this month and I can remember the 86 world cup, can anyone ever come close to maradona's performance that tournament? that's what Ronaldo and messi have to do to be able to attain 'the best ever status'

both players are far better than their previous benchmarks in club football, can they do a cruyff, or maradona or gazza though and propel themselves to world cup greats?

how good was italia 90 and gazza?

The team of the year is a joke, I'd love to hear honest opinions from the Bayern players.

I wanted Ribéry to win but I'm pleased for Ronaldo.

The best thing from the event was Zlatan and Jurgen Klopp's brief meeting.
