Just watched the Copa semi final. Boca won 2-0 and Barrios was outstanding. Covered every blade of grass and had some lovely touches and runs.

I was at the match and obviously was too busy singing to pay too much attention to Barrios (see thread on improving atmosphere at new stadium) but after about half an hour I remembered I should be watching out for him. In the last 15 of the first half I thought he was trotting about filling in space in an eerily Dier like manner, but second half he was clearly more on his game and apart from a couple of missed place passes was key to Boca gaining the upper hand and was the foundation on which they scored their two late goals (vamos a ganar la copa que perdieron las gallinas). Was the first time I've seen him in the flesh since haven't been to La Bombonera for a while, but I reckon he'd definitely add a different skill set to our midfield combinations and who knows how Poch could develop him...

Probably more than others have seen of him

I will say I only see him in the World Cup and he wasn’t great. Technically he looked very average.

Thing is, take a snippet of Kante’s games and you might say the same thing so it’s good to keep the mind open.

Wouldn’t say they are entirely different. Everyone reckons Onomah best position is exactly where Skipp plays. I’d only say they are entirely different based on the fact Skipp actually puts a shift in and is full of energy. Where as Onomah let’s the game pass him by and strolls around like he’s on a Sunday afternoon walk in the park. And Skipp is 18 by the way.

Skipp for me is a proper bread and butter defensive midfield.

Onomah is more a deep lying play maker.

I would play Onomah without specialist defensive midfielder / hard working box to box midfielder alongside him (in same way I wouldn’t play Dembele without one).

Hoping to see Skipp given chance in league cup against the spammers and if he looks good maybe he’ll get more opportunities for that defensive midfield slot.

I think a player in the championship has to absolutely light up that league to have a chance in PL like Maddison did and Mount and Wilson are now. Onomah has been there over a season and basically not done much. He can’t hold down a regular place and is never spoken about by anyone outside this forum.

Yeah- but can he do it on a cold, rainy night in February away at Wolves?

Had high hopes for onomah but can't see it now. He's got bits but not the whole puzzle.

Skipp looks like he has everything. If I had to play either in a crucial game, I'd play skipp despite his age.

No idea how anyone is doubting this guy. Just led his team to a South American CL final and was the stand out player.

He’d be a step up on current Waynama

We have had ITK saying Wanyama has long term injury problems so looking at a replacement seems to make sense, especially with Dembele on the wane. We do need someone who can boss the midfield creating a platform for the creative players we have to play
