Benzema linked? Do we need him?

See that we're being linked with a loan move for Benzema in Jan and was wondering whether people on here feel we need a player of his caliber or not.

For me it's clear cut that a top striker would almost certainly make us the most dangerous attacking team in the premier league right now.

Someone like Benzema could well be that player, although i'm not his biggest fan.

So do people think we need a top striker in Jan (without worrying too much about price) and if so who should we go for?

My personal choice would be Papiss Cissé. He's the right age - 25, is scoring for fun in the Bundesliga since he joined Freiburg last year, is 6 foot tall and looks like a real Harry type player (i.e. relatively unknown African).

Don't think he will come to us, but if there is a possibilty then we should definitely get him. If Harry is going to play 4-4-2 with VdV from the right then Benzema and Defoe upfront would be good.

Agree about Cisse as well, not sure what his scoring record was before but he's doing really well. But I also like Demba Ba at Hoffenheim. He'd be quite cheap I think and a relatively low risk signing.

If he isn't getting first team football at Real Madrid he may welcome a loan move to a Premiership club until the end of the season. It's a deal that could benefit both clubs and the player.

We all know we need a top quality striker but finding the right one is the difficulty.

We obviously need a top striker but it is unlikely that we will get one in the Jan window and will have to wait till the summer. If we could get Benzema on loan for 6 months as reported it could work in everyones favour.

I'd f**king walk to Madrid and give him a piggy back to the lane to get him playing for us.

I'd help you out mate, as long as we could stop periodically to enjoy some of the sights of Spain and France. Would seem a shame to miss an opportunity to go wine tasting and stuff. I'd imagine Karim would know his way around as well, and I'm sure he'd be realistic about an occasional rest

There is obviously a good relationship with Real going back when Levy spent some time talking with them in Madrid and the Van Der Vaart deal, where they offered the player to us. Hopefully we can persuade them and Benzema that coming to us for the 2nd half of the season would benefit all concerned. I do think that Harry could get the best out of Benzema as he appears to be a player that needs to be told how good he is and would thrive being the focal point in a team, much like VDV has, as opposed to feeling that he is just another player.

Benzema playing at his best is a great player.

If we are genuinally going to challenge in the PL and CL we need great players.

Benzema could be a revelation for us.

He would be a significant improvement on Pav and Keane, so yes.

I don't think he would interested in coming to us, unless he misses Rafa terribly.

Benzema

But I also like Suarez

Either would be f*cking amazing, but I'm not holding my breath. January's always a tough time to buy

I think they're both cup tied for the CL though right?

Benzema would suit what we need more, but as someone pointed out Real only really have him and Higuain. If Higuain gets injured Benzema will start. He has been coming off the bench in most games recently. He may well be unhappy about this role, but even so I really doubt that he'd be jumping at the chance to come to us. He could literally walk into almost any of the big teams in europe.

Suarez is probably more realistic, plus can play on the right if we want to try and play an effective 4-3-3/4-2-3-1.

Suarez is more realistic imo. Benzema would only be a temporary move. His price would be too high, as would his wages. So a loan deal is the best we could hope for. Suarez on the other hand would cost around £20m and he's on realistic wages. Plus he can play as a wide striker aswell, which would give us another dimension up front. I think we could get him in Jan if Ajax are out of the Champions League by then.

I disagree a little here, as I do not think Benzema would cost as much as people think and also I think he would not take much convincing to join us, as we can offer him first team football and a chance to prove the guys at Real wrong.
