Berbatov should have been player of the year

Again, a lot of people are transferring their annoyance at his apparent dicking us around because he sees us as a mere stepping-stone to bigger and better things to criticism of his 'lack of effort'. You might argue that that's unfair, and I wouldn't disagree, but it is nevertheless the way folk will perceive these things and there's no escaping it. If he'd publicly committed himself to Spurs some months ago—even after the CC final—it would have been a far closer contest. But he's done no such thing, and no matter how good a player is he's not going to get anyone's vote if he's seen as a mercenary.

fair comments 57 - but yes I think it is unfair and it's leaving a bad taste in my and a lot of other people's mouths who think Berbs is one of the best players at the Lane for at least the last 20 years probably more- and it is causing a bit of a 'uncivil war' - it's a shame but there it is

just as I'm almost programmed to defend people like JJ and Lee - it's the same with Berbs, I hate to see unfair vilification of one of our players - and especially one of my all-time faves which Berbs is

it all about peoples individual opinions.

He hasnt been amazing, he hasnt been awful. Out of all the palyers this season, he probably stands out. But not much more.

If it was for impact, i would say woodgate.

Berbatov like most of the team have under performed overall.

I'm right and anyone who disagrees with me is a halfwit. However many of them there may be. Got that? Good.
Which is right as long as you're agreeing with me, but completely wrong if you're not.

This is because I'm the rightest and nobody can be righter. And if you disagree you're wrong.

Berbatov is easily the best player at the lane in recent times. He is invaluable to our squad/team.

He is one of the five best and most productive players in the EPL, a joy to watch and frankly a footballing genius.

There is no way we would be able to replace him like for like, players like him simply do not come around too often (certainly not ones who we could sign anyway)

As stated, the only reason some fans are speaking about him in a negative light (or should I say with less admiration then his footballing ability warrents) is venting of the frustration at the thought of losing him (especially to another English club).

There is no ground to critise him on a footballing level, he is heads and shoulders above any player in our squad (even King IMO) certainly since Gazza (Klinsmann and Ginola were great but I dont see them as having been as talented and effective as Berbatov)
He scores 20+ goals, makes 20+ more (directly or indirectly) and plays the type of football anyone would pay to watch (his touch, vision, movement and general techinque)
Frankly over the last two years he has made us tick and almost everything we done good goes through him.

All we can hope (assuming he does move on) is that the money is reinvested wisely and top quality players are brought in to offer creativty in other areas i.e. the midfield which are currently lacking and leave us so reliant on him.

If the right players are brought in (CB and almost a whole new midfield) and bring the rest of the team up to scratch, although we will lose a player of greater quality then those we bring in on an indivdual basis perhaps the end result will be an overall increase in ability and peformance of the team in general (with more avenues of creativety, less sloppy mistakes and a solid defence)

It all boils down to what the award should be given for. If it is for the best player at the club, then ofcourse Berbatov has to win by a country mile. But if it is down to the player who must deserves credit for showing passion for the team, then it has to be Keane. I didn't vote but would have voted Berbs, because I think he's been better than Keane and despite the fact he's leaving I still love to watch him play, in a way you just cannot associate with watching Keane. But anyway its all a bit irrelevant now so lets drop it.
