I agree Berbatov has been our best player at times this season but would still vote for Keano.

The whole Berbatov thing has been tainted with his agent constantly opening his gob and annoying us Spurs folk.

Plus I went for the fact Keano loves Spurs, wants to be with us for the long haul and his goal scoring rate in 2007 was quite phenominal!

He's a bit off-form at the mo but apart from Berba who gets equally as isolated alongside him he hasn't really got any decent midfielders behind him dominating games and providing him with any form of service. Plus Rooney went through a phase of not scoring this season and no one would call for him to be dropped!

fair comments DJS :)

I actually rate Keano and Berbs as spurs legends but I think Keano gets a far easier ride from spurs fans than Berbs and that does get to me

It's probably because Berbs hasn't been here as long - Keano has had his knockers over the years, but put his head down and worked his way back into the team over Defoe who at one point early in his Spurs career could perhaps have been seen as undropable...

It's also the fact maybe that Berbs can come over as a bit emotionless - not really a valid reason but Keano buzzes all over the place and it's just more noticeable.

If Berbs stayed a few more years :)pray:) I suspect he'd get the kind of worship and easier ride that Keano currently has (nicdic aside!)

my feelings exactly - despite the fact that most of Keano's running about doesn't do much good and can be counter-productive it's typical of British fans that many prefer the Keano headless chicken and arms waving routine to the Berbs '*** it' arms in the air routine- i prefer the berbs way - cos to me it's very Tottenham :)

If there is 1 centre forward in the Premiership that a striker would want to play with it's Berbatov.

He does more for his strike partner than the likes of Torres, Drogba & Adebayor (when they play with them) who are more out and out goalscorers than Berbatov. Berbs creates more space, chances and leads the line as a link player far more than any of those do. Therefore it will have been an absolute joy for Keane to play alongside Berbatov and quite simply berbatov has made Keane look a far better player than he actually is. Put him alongside the likes of the above mentioned players or any other premier league centre forward and he would look less of a player.

Unfortunately I think we are going to find out just how important Berbatov is to this team and will probably have to change our style of play. Keane on the other hand could be improved upon quite easily.

I find it interesting that despite being hauled off in game after game and blatantly showing his displeasure at it there are never any stories floating around about big clubs looking at or monitoring Keane's situation at Spurs. It leads me to the conclusion that there is not 1 club that could be considered bigger or as big as Spurs who have any interest in him, maybe this is the real reason that people believe this crap about him being Spurs through & through and loving the club. Personally I think if he was offered more money and a CL club he would be out the door at least as quickly as Berba but the truth of it is not 1 club of such stature has any interest in him.

nidge I acept the logisitcs so retract my agreement that it was held too early - I still stand by my opinion RK shouldn't have won it - Berbs is the better player overall and this season so he should have won it - and it's no wonder that Berbs is likely to leave given the lack of support he gets from so many spurs fans

This made me laugh, since when has Berbatov been criticised for him to hear. Does he read this board? If not then he i doubt he hears or sees any criticism at all.

Take your point Mark - but it's not just on here, there is loads of flak being aimed at Berbs right across the fan sites - it wouldn't amaze me at all if he does pick up on it indirectly - eg via his agents or his many Bulgarian friends/advisers

great post Legend

I disagree, the way Berbatov talks of Keane suggests that he rates him a lot higher than people on this board do.

Legend also suggests Keane could be improven upon easily.

This is rubbish, year in year out he delivers, despite dips in form. Id like to see an 'easy' improvement of Keane which wouldnt cost above 20 million.

Edit: I quoted your post as its a lot smaller than Legends

I was mainly applauding Legend's pro-Berbs stance - unfortunately tho because a lot of people aren't giving Berbs his due praise with some being way too hostile there's gonna be a bit of anti-Keane backlash too -

I don't know what other clubs think of Keane but I am sure Berbs is worth a lot more than him - for a reason - cos he's better

In which case can I say..........

Dear Berbatov's agent/friend/advisor/second cousin thrice removed

Should Berbatov commit to Tottenham Hotspur and put a end to these incessant stories that he's moving on, he will find that we really do love him. Actually he'll find that we adore him and he will be subject to much hero worship and will in short order become a real Spurs hero & legend.

If how the fans think of him is indeed important to him, then he can do his part very very easily. Our love is a two way thing. We expect a little light petting in return, we don't give our affections easily like some two bob whore.

Well, thats not strictly true  but you get the drift.........Anyway, pass it on will ya?

I don't know how anyone can say that Berbatov's had a worse season this than last. Since the arrival of Ramos he's rarely put in a bad shift. The effort that Ramos has got out of him by switching his role slightly (reversing the roles Jol had incorrectly allocated) has trebled over what Jol got out of him last season and this. Goals, assists, talent and effort. For me this season he has actually shown greatness. It's the addition of that work ethic that has made him a great player as opposed to a player capable of great things. Which is what I was saying to Berbati previously. I've not had a grumble about Berbatov virtually since Ramos arrived.

great stuff B-C - :) BTW in case you haven't seen my praise of your assesment of Robbo & Daws - well here's my praise - you called them both early and correctly - I would never use your 'outspoken terms' but you wuz right - tho I haven't given up on Daws completely

incidentally - partly because of the anti-berbs brigade I'm coming more round to your views on Keane too

Hi DC, not wanting to piss on your parade, but from what I've read no one seems to doubt Berbs is our best player.

Those who have said let him go, don't really mean it, they want him to stay and are probably.

a) upset he's likely to leave.
b) very upset he's likely to leave.
c) don't see the point in having the best player in the squad here when he'd rather be somewhere else, not gonna do team morale next season much good.

As for the vote, I think it's refreshing and shows Spurs fans have some depth that they didn't vote for the best player which is obviously Berba, they decided to vote for a player who has by and large been our captain this season, who is our second longest serving player, who broke into the top fifteen goalscorers of all time, breaking the magical 100, who more than any other player was deliriously happy at our semi and final wins, who is basically a true spurs player. I think it's a decent shout to vote for him, and yes I did.

Why dredge this up again?

Proper flats we should look voting Berbatov Player of the Year and then have him piss off to Chelsea. Or do we imagine winning the award might have influenced the decision?

Berbatov should have been player of the season, no doubt. Keane has had a poor end to the season, and if i'm correct a pretty poor beginning as well. Only 2 goals in the last 13 games, and only 2 in the first 11 as well. He had a great period in the middle of the season, but again he has proved he is far too inconsistent. Berbatov provides so much more for the team, yet for some reason, Keane has become completley infallable in the eyes of so many Spurs fans.

If Berbatov goes, it will be a sad day, players of his ilk do not come around very often. I bet the people giving him stick would realise then, and wish he was back.
