I was told before the game today that part of the agreement made with Modric was that Berbatov would be playing here next season.

This obviously cannot be contractual, but is it extremely encouraging and IMO is nearly as good news as the transfer itself.

Certainly good news if true, keeping Berbatov is as important (if not more so) then any signing we could make of the summer

Well when he signed a 4+2 year contract he waived that right, albeit it'd be better if he does.

Theres absolutely no point keeping a player against his wishes. It could play out one of two ways:

He sees we're building strongly for next season and wants to be part of it

He's told we're building strongly for next season, and despite Milans interest he must play for us next year

I think we would see 2 very different performances from him depending on which one of those is correct. If it pans out like the 2nd scenario, we'd be better off cashing in and signing a world class striker who will be behind the team 100%.

I think there is a huge chance he will want to go of course, however I do not subscribe to it being as cut and dried as is reported in the press, after all in the January window SSN and several news papers were reporting that he wanted out and was going to move there and then.

He is an ambitious player no doubt, he wants to play with other great players and at the highest levels i.e. CL and competition realistically for all competitions.

However he may or may not hold confidence in Ramos' ability to turn us into winners (as was the case at Sevilla) if so then he may be perpared to stay one more season and see what happens here (Espesically if the clubs signings act as a representation of the club and the board matching his own personal ambition.)

After all, if we can bring in two to three more players who match the calibre of whom he has expressed a desire to play along side and we start to challange/win things in the near future his perception of our club and his position within could still change.

Of course the pull of a big pay day for his agent will still exist and no dubt he is desperate to cash in on his cash cow, but I Would say we will still do all we can to convince him to stay and hopefully this can be achieved.

Berbs knows what is what and, despite what his agent wants to dream up, he can obviously see that we are putting together (again!) a fairly decent squad and that, in itself, shows that we are serious (be it, once again!) about moving forward. No CL football next year but 'whats another year? lol.
Is anyone else getting slightly tired of being the team that NEVER quite makes the grade in the EPL? I am and I pray that Levi and Co are willing to do what it takes to get us into the highest regions of the European game! It is about time. COYS!

You dont have to feel that way on this occasion as we will be finishing 10th or 11th this season.

Just to add that the lead post just does not seem plausable somehow. Unless you can convince me that Berbatov was at the signing of Modric's contract and had also signed an addendum in it to this effect, I believe it is cack as Berb will go if he wants irrespective of any "promises" being made to Modric.

But it isn't really up to berbs tbh so we could well have met Modric's willingness to play with berbs next season in a gentlemans agreement kinda way. To uphold that agreement we just need to turn down all offers.

Good point and I did think of that but considering what a moody git he is now, can you imagine his attitude if he wanted away, and we blocked any potential tranfers of his?

if this is true then only good can come out of it. with that sort of creativity i see more goals for the next season... tighten it up in the back and i see spurs climbing up the table

It could be a situation where each helps the other. Berbs is more likely to stay with class signings. And Modric wants to come because of Berbatov.
