I agree. Neither genius not saint but just a footy bloke who did an OK job with our youth system. Not his fault he was promoted beyond his means.
I'll need more substance than that.
Lol. Sherwood's influence on your system was nothing more than trying to get them out on loans, most of which failed. His infuence is vastly overstated.I agree. Neither genius not saint but just a footy bloke who did an OK job with our youth system. Not his fault he was promoted beyond his means.

Why are people slating this? I'd love Sherwood to go to United. It just fucks them over another season. Same reason i want Sherwood to go to Chelsea. The guy is an absolutely horrific manager, a snake and a huge ****. Let him fuck over United or Chelsea.http://www.football365.com/news/parker-sherwood-better-for-united-than-mourinho
Parker: Sherwood better for United than Mourinho
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker thinks Tim Sherwood would be a better appointment at Old Trafford than Jose Mourinho.
Current boss Louis van Gaal has been under pressure for much of the season and speculation over his future has only grown since the 2-1 defeat against Sunderland on Saturday.
Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea late last year and is widely expected to replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford in the summer.
However Parker, who made over 100 appearances for the Red Devils in his five years in Manchester, thinks it would be a mistake to appoint the former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto boss.
“To suggest that [Mourinho] could walk in to a crisis situation at United and turn it around is absurd,” Parker wrote in his Eurosport column.
“That’s something he’s never done in his career, and this really wouldn’t be the time to start. He’s lost a huge amount of respect in the game, and I suspect the players at United hate the idea of him taking over.
“Frankly, given how unhappy the players are right now, they’d be better off bringing in Tim Sherwood between now and the end of the season: someone to soft soap the players, give them a bit of a cuddle, get them feeling good about themselves once again.
“Sadly, as we’ve seen with Tim, those sorts of managers don’t work long term. And United need to start thinking about the long term as soon as possible, because if not they face the ultimate danger: turning into the new Liverpool.”
He had very little influence on our youth system.

Fair enough, but would it work if I'd said "in" our youth system rather than "with"? I recall he coached the under-21s and brought Kane and Bentaleb into the first team.
We're at cross-purposes then. I'm no Timist and wouldn't have credited him with the smarts for McDermott's role. I simply think he's excessively maligned here and this seemed like the thread to say so. He's a chancer but on balance I'm not convinced he was a tumour. Anyway, he's done and dusted. He did very little actual coaching from what anyone has been able to establish, and certainly wasn't the guy behind the over arching philosophy or structure of the academy - that was McDermott.

He was a cancer to the club though. Anyone who starts doing all he could to get his clubs manager sacked from the onset for his own personal gain, and then proceeds to get many talented players wanting to leave asap is a rot to the club. We're at cross-purposes then. Hearsay. I'll reserve judgment. He was a cancer to the club though. Anyone who starts doing all he could to get his clubs manager sacked from the onset for his own personal gain, and then proceeds to get many talented players wanting to leave asap is a rot to the club.
Hearsay is being polite. Drivel would be closer to the mark.Hearsay. I'll reserve judgment.

For the sake of argument let's assume that to be true. Now put yourself in Sherwood's boots. After four years under a successful old-school English manager he's answerable to a much younger man with fanciful ideas, no playing career and a failed start in English football, and who wants rid of him, just to add insult to injury. It was a match made in Hell and I'm not sure we can blame either man for that. Levy should have backed AVB and sacked Sherwood and anyone else he didn't want, or he should have kept Redknapp. What a mess.Tried to undermine AVB at every possible occasion. It might be hearsay, but a lot of people closer to the situation than you or I were of the same opinion.

I'm not a Sherwood apologist, just playing Devil's advocate, They're both history now and clearly Levy has learnt lessons. I'm sure the gory details will come out in someone's autobiography before too long.
Whereas AVB got on with everyone?Goes far deeper than just AVB though mate.
