Breel Embolo Moves To Schalke

This isn't some 1 year investment. They've been investing in youth and moving up through the Bundesliga 2. Slowly. But no go ahead and explain German football to me please, it's not like my family isn't from there or anything.

Not to mention Embolo isn't likely invested in their team success. This is a move for personal growth and development and will likely move on in a few years time. That's the whole point to going there in the first place.

Your example of investing teams is a poor one from a player's perspective. Look at the kids Monaco brought in and developed when they got money for example. It didn't work for the club, but it benefited the players.

This just sounds like sour grapes from you because he's not coming here.
Jeez, no need to get a shitty on about it! I don't buy that personal development bs, that's rubbish. Play at a higher level if you want to develop, which he won't at Leipzig in the imminent future!

Personally, I'm not fussed if he doesn't come to Spurs. I am fussed by players showing no ambition when they have great potential because they've been advised badly & are chasing €€€€€€€€€€€€€€

If somebody moved from the SPL to a Premier league team we would consider it a step up, even it was from Celtic to Hull.

This is a similar situation, moving from a weak league to one of the best, and arguably the best, league in the world. That is a step up for a young striker.

Has the money attracted him? Hell yeah, of course it has. But that doesn't mean it's not a good career move either. He'll be playing regular football in a growing side. How many young players perform well get a big move then fall of the map because they can't get a game at the big sides? Smart move.

I'll be sad if Embolo goes elsewhere and have zero respect for a characterless corporate prop of a team but can understand his using them as a stepping stone to a real one due to opportunities. But as an aside, I've never read so much depressing marketing-ese... it's like watching american sports where advertising is considered more important than the sport, and people are raised to have some bizarre allegiance and respect and in some cases borderline nationalist/religious cult like dependence on and for companies and brands - and then there follows this blinking failure to comprehend why a dogmatic obsession with athleticism/stats and clumsy analysis born thereof continually result in defeat when the inward facing hype was so amplified. No company develops or 'grows' a sport - they hitch a ride like a parasite, on the back of a sport, and leech money out of it in order to grow themselves, and it's only by keeping this in check that any mutual benefit, financially, is sustained. It might provide financing but is wildly out of control (potentially the greatest footballer of all time having to play a world cup while injured and the final due to corporate pressure shortly after almost choking to death, after 'treatment' to force him to play) and has a hugely negative effect on sport, player development etc. I don't think Lionel Messi would make it if he came through now, in many leagues in the world.

Well that's the key.

1. Bundesliga is a higher level
2. He'll play and he's not as guaranteed that elsewhere.

But that's been explained to you and you've chosen to ignore it.

If he was chasing the money he'd come here. We'd probably pay him higher wages.

I've not ignored anything, I just think you're dead wrong. I just don't see how moving to a probable-struggling side in a league with a dirth of quality in its lower echelons is good for him. There won't be any European football for him, not even UEFA Cup and he'll likely move on sooner than later, stalling his career even more. He may as well join QPR for all the good it would do him. He surely has better options for his 'personal development'. Disappointing!

In terms of the quality of the league, the Bundesliga is a huge step up from the Swiss Super League, which is where he currently plays... We can't comment compared to the PL for example as we don't know if he has even had any offers.

With regards to them struggling... they have a shit ton of cash and if Embolo is a sign of the quality they intend to purchase, I think they'll be fine.

Playing at the highest level for 30+ games a season is a definitely lot better than playing 6 games a season at the highest level for Basel.

By the way, you know that there's a disagree button as well, right? You don't have to neg-rep everyone who disagrees with you ;)

I haven't!

Edit: seriously, if I have, it's inadvertent. I actually don't really know if I have or not. Tbh, don't even know what you mean lol

Reports Utd in for him now, do they need him?

The big boys are hoovering up all the talent available so as not to ever be in the situation they found themselves in last season.

At 19 now, if he goes to RBL and has a couple of solid years there, he can use it as a stepping stone to Bayern. They don't really have any forwards outside of Lewandowski (As in out-and-out strikers), so signing a 21 year old Embolo would be perfect business for them...

Hope we can swing him, but It looks unlikely...

£20 in the donations though if he does!!

Had a few mates share links with me today to suggest Mourinho wants him at United.

£15m (would go up with performance clauses surely) for Embolo + £12m for Janssen would be the dream. Plus better value IMO than £31m for Bats alone. Oh if only it was that easy...:(

Edit: I hate Utd

United are paying Embolo £90k pw. That would be amongst our highest earners for an unproven teenager.

Didn't see that. That's obviously ludicrous for us and the "he's going to play first team football" arguments surely now don't have as much weight.

FFS. Bad news. Mourinho is a very swift operator in the market. BE will be immense for United.
That's what happens when you are a top manager, with plenty of money to spend and high wages to offer. Deals are easy when you hold all the cards.

Man U can throw money at deals. That's why they can get them done quicker. Problem with that is they end up over paying a lot of the time.

Although in this case I've got doubts we were in for Embolo in the first place.
