TAKE NOTE!

http://www.thestar.com/Sports/article/417801

If this ever comes into fruition, everyone needs to fight this at all costs. As a Spurs supporter living in Toronto I know the how MLSE continues to take and take from Toronto sports fans. The Toronto Maple Leafs (hockey) have not won the Stanley Cup since 1967 and even though throughout the years have been the richest club in the NHL, they fail to spend to win.

Also, as owners of the recent expansion club in the MLS, Toronto FC, they have increased food and drink prices and ticket prices after the first season by 10-15% (not sure of the exact number). This is with 17,000 season ticket holders for a stadium of only 20,000. They could have expanded the stadium quite easily (its aluminum, not concrete!) but decided to take advantage of the thriving football community in the city.

Be warned.

As another Canadian, I think this is horrible news. MLSE are well-known to be meddlers and are all about making a profit. Just ask anyone you know from Toronto. Hope to God this doesn't happen, could be another Liverpool situation...

Spurs Takeover Rumours ??

Just been looking throught the BBC Gossip Column and noticed this :

"Tottenham are the target of a £250m takeover by Richard Peddie, the man behind Canadian ice hockey team Toronto Maple Leafs (News of the World) "

Personally I think it is just a crock of shit but what are your thoughts on this?

People said the same thing about ENIC before they took over.

"Tottenham might be the most attractive. Based in one of London's most multicultural boroughs, Spurs fans are recognized as rabid supporters."

That will explain the frothing.

Levy wants to sell as his wife wants to move to Florida. Levy will wait until planning is in place for a new stadium though. I was told this about 8 months ago by an ITK who works with Levy.

MLSE are a buch of incompotent wankers...

we'll be relegated within 2 years if these arsewipes take over..

MLSE are actually majority owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund. They're all about making money for their fund.

Isn't £250m a bit on the cheap side?

I suppose the price depends a lot on the club's property/stadum situation -

All you guys should start picketing Levy's residence to show your displeasure, and petition the Queen to throw Canada out of the Commonwealth should MLSE buy our beloved Spurs.

I said two or three days ago on another thread that they don't invest in the teams they own and are only milking the fans.

Rabbi_Crackers on FTL has just suggested that Levy has just come back from Canada. Doesn't sound like good news to me based on what a couple of people have said so far on here.

This story really worries me because I think it actually has some legs to it. Levy has previously come out and said that he would not rule out the sale of the club although I think I remember him putting a price of £400 million on it.

This group own The Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey team, Toronto Raptors basketball team, and Toronto FC. I have a lot of relatives living in Toronto and spoke recently to one of my cousins. His comments on the ownership and management of the Maple Leafs was so bad it would be unpublishable before the watershed.

Here is their Wikipedia page does mention their interest in buying an EPL team http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_Leaf_Sports_&_Entertainment_Ltd.

All very scary stuff. Their primary remit is to make money. They have no other agendas other than money. If they did take over our esteemed club then it could really spell disaster.
