We had VDV, Modric, Bale, King, and also the peak of Lennon, Sandro, Dawson eetc
Eriksen, Lamela, Alli, Dier, Dembele, Alderwerield, Vertonghen, Kane, Lloris (better keeper than Gomes) etc. Not sure what your point is?

That squad was great, but this current squad is younger on average, fitter and actually goes out with a gameplan to press and work off the ball and not just 'run around a bit' as the old saying went.

I don't understand why we was placed in group E when we was drawn. I know we can't face other english teams, but there was still more than one opportunity, wasn't it?

Does anybody know this? It's killing me, feels like failing an IQ-test.

We are still crying out for - imho - a Hazard type of player. Someone who can get hold of the ball and work his way through the tightest of defenses or make that killer pass. We have good ball playing players who can find a good pass but it doesn't happen as regularly as I would like, nor do we have that kind of player who can dribble past many players and deceive the opposition and draw a penalty in the box. That's the kind of player we need. When times are tough and the team we're playing against are just too damn good or too damn stingy, we need to calve out a goal by hook or by crook, and you see CFC, City and alike do that when they need it. Whether it be against the big teams or the Stoke's they do it, more often than not.

No King, but our back five is better now. Weaker attacking midfielders, but much better strikers.

If we faced the same teams now:
Inter Milan - No Bale to score a hat-trick, but we'd never go 4-0 down in the first place. They may have been the reigning champions, but there were not even close to the level Mourinho had them playing at.
AC Milan - I highly doubt we would sit back and play on the counter-attack like before. It was an ageing side, so we should have outplayed them, not parked the bus and relied on a lucky break.
Real Madrid - There was no shame in losing to them, but we were destroyed in the first leg. Odds are still in Real's favour, but our current side would almost concede fewer and score at least once over the two legs.

Out of the 4 English teams, 2 had to be placed in groups A-D, and 2 had to be placed in groups E-H. This is because on any given matchday the first set of groups will play on Tuesday and the second on Wednesday or vice-versa, and it is more lucrative for TV companies if there are two English clubs playing each day rather than three on one day and one on the other. Since Arsenal and Man City were both drawn in A-D, we had to go into E-H. Group G already had Leicester meaning we couldn't go there, a Pot 3 team had already been drawn into groups F and H leaving E as the only option.

I can't imagine a 90k seater stadium full to the brim of Spurs fans, enjoying a rare foray into the Champions League with our best side in decades being anything other than rocking.

I remember being in that stadium against Chelsea and Portsmouth....I still lose sleep over it.

People need to stop being so small time. Gutted we didn't draw big teams? That's what a team from a tin pot league only making up the numbers would say. We're in this to go as far as we fucking can - I'm delighted with that draw. Absolutely delighted. Do what we should, keep progressing and eventually we'll run into the big boys.

As well as the extra revenue for wins and qualifying for last 16, quarters etc, we get a better UEFA coefficient and, most importantly, we will stand a better chance of staying in the competition longer than Arsenal.

I understand that, I never said I didn't understand that? I haven't actually disagreed with him...lol.

I am simply saying why is it so bad to want it earlier?
Because finishing first in the group is far superior to finishing second. Gives us far more of a chance to progress further.

I hope we get through, course I do, but we have a very tough group, there are no donkeys in it
Lad look at the teams we could have got from pots 1 and 2. Still tough, but we've done very well out of that draw. Ridiculous to suggest we haven't.
