I think it has something to do with history in the competition. PSG & City have zero history in Europe and despite having exceptional squads and a ton of money are unable to get close to the final and usually falter against the first historic team. Whereas Liverpool always do well in these competitions despite not being one of the favourites. If you compare Anfield to the Etihad, Anfield encaptures the occasion, whereas the Etihad doesn't. I do think WHL was similar to Anfield, we have European history there and it has lifted us (AC Milan, Internazionale, even Madrid to an extent) and I do think we have the excuse of not having the strength of City to hide behind. We don't really set out to win the CL as we know that it is probably out of our reach, whereas City & PSG should be making great efforts yet always flatter to deceive.

I'm certain history and tradition plays a part. I know a City fan and he tells me most of their supporters don't care about the CL and Europe, they only care about domestic honours. Perhaps that has something to do with it too.

He told me it was because of the sanctions UEFA imposed on them a few seasons go, even if it was entirely fair. A lot of City fans are ignoring a few home truths at the moment because of what is happening on the pitch.

I just responded that a lot of our most memorable moments have come under the lights in European football and because City haven't experienced that they 'don't get it'.

Just seen it now and not sure it was a pen. Mane puts the ball past the defender then is falling into the defenders before he makes a challenge. Looks like cheating to me.
